New Infusion mechanic?

So after re-watching yesterday's broadcast for the 2nd time, I noticed that the helmet DeeJ received from the sterling package had a stats roll of nil. After infusion, the stats allocation mirrored the rolls of the piece used as infusion fuel. Is it safe to say that ALL infusions will result in the Int/Dis/Str stats matching the fuel equipment when infusing EVERY time? Or is it only the first infusion, then stat rolls are static? For example, if I received a helm like DeeJ, and wanted a Dis/Str stat roll, could I use a "spare" piece to set the stats before infusing a second time for LL? Or will the second infusion reset the stats to match the fuel used?
