Praetorians (vex minotaurs) were Roman guards who protected important places and people within the Roman empire, mainly within Rome itself...much like US secret service is today. They were also deployed with regular army in certain areas that were strategic, or where leadership were stationed abroad.
The vex seem to use these in the same way to guard the vog and its contents within...if anyone remembers that raid anymore :)

The Praetorian's are listed as part of the Virgo Prohibition, the same vex sect that is engaged in conflict with the cabal on Mars. These modified Minotaur's are just what op explained; a special group of troops mixed in with standard infantry to defend key assets.

Greek not Roman

Look it up. Its roman.

I was more generalising The Vex aligning with Greek mythology. Minotaurs, Gorgons etc Did look it up tho touché. My bad for a lazy reply.

And i couldve stated that more clearly maybe in my first post :)

Np. I was more pointing out the term and title "praetorian." U r right about minotaurs...which more plays towards my argument about destiny's just wanting cool names. A roman title with a greek mythological creature. Still cool i think.

except the cabal use the Roman theme with there troops.

Do they have to be exclusive? There are praetorians in the vog raid. I know of no other use of that particular term, and its especially interesting that they guard the vault. I dont think bungie was trying to make certain races fit certain historical real life elements. I think they picked things they thought would sound cool in a video game that have historical and relate-able relevance.
