It could be even simpler. Fire team leader set to public and it matchmakes. Set it to friends only or closed and it doesn't.

Only flaw I can think of would be the manual changing of it and needing to invite each member instead of just staying open and not friending them. Easily made up for by getting universal optional matching even on story missions. Same inconvenience as opt out communications would have been without the excuse of shielding players from bad language. Still don't understand why they thought muting someone was such a chore and the opt in decision has led to almost no one using fire team chat.

Totally. Every other online game has muting so maybe if the voice chat was done differently (correctly more like it) then this would have been another easy thing to implement. Ya the logistics of the matchmaking would have to be ironed out like you bring up but something (anything!) Should have been put in from the start. There is no excuse and no reason it shouldn't be in this game. I think the division has done matchmaking perfect and a destiny version of that would be awesome! Maybe not the exact same but some iteration would be great. It was needed before and is beyond needed now

So it matches you into that raid lobby and then they vote kinda like OPs idea if you get into the actual game or not. Basically adds a layer between matchmaking and the fire team itself as a bottleneck only in game instead of lfg

Ya that would be a lot of work but if it was put in from the start we wouldn't be here hahaha maybe for destiny 2 because im almost a hundred percent sure bungie has written this iteration off. At least their actions have shown this. I have no problem with a lobby system but if they want total immersion just an in game thing would be easier i think. Ill take anything at this point hahaha

The lobbies would be in game. Think gears of war style but mediate the host advatange like they have been struggling with their current system now anyways
