The Negative Effects of Insufficient Vault Space

Vault is FULL!! (Gah!!)

456

Vault is filling, but I have space left.

Vault space isn't really an issue to me.

Is your vault full (or almost full)? If it's so filled that you have to spend a lot of time moving stuff around so you can transfer one item to another character, then it's full. There have been a number of posts recently about increasing vault space and organizing it so it becomes something more than just a bucket in which to throw our gear. It still makes me shake my head in wonder that vault space is such an issue. It's a database. It contains fields that are linked in various ways. You access that data through commands. The only reason it would be limited is either to conserve hard drive space (Bungie can afford more hard drive space) or to limit the enjoyment of the players (intentional buzz kill). It's been a point of contention since the game launched! This morning it dawned on me that my vault space is actually affecting my playing of the game - specifically, my willingness to play. Why would I? It's a loot-based game, so the point is to complete activities in order to earn loot. But there's nowhere to put that loot. Bungie wasn't thinking too well when they decided to render all our Year One gear useless. They obviously have not invested time into this game (into attaining that gear) like the rest of us have, so they don't place the same value on these items. So it's not a problem to just throw everything away. We are not willing to do that, Bungie. Oh, sure, I deleted a great many items from Year One. I had to. But I've reached a point where I'm not willing to just keep deleting weapons and armour that I spent a great deal of time and effort to get. And so my vault is full. The end result? I don't play nearly as much, and I'm much more willing to just put the controller down after a little while. Why? Because, even if I found something amazing, I have no place to put it. The effort and time required to get that gear is no longer worth it. Sure, the game is fun, but it stops being fun very quickly when you realize there's no point. So, Bungie, to translate this into a very small, easy to understand sentence: If you continue to limit the space in which we can store our hard-earned gear, we will continue to limit the amount of time we play your game. Some possible solutions: Kiosks for all raid weapons and armour, Iron Banner weapons and armour, Trials weapons and armour. We should be able to "deposit" our weapons or armour AS THEY ARE. Fully upgraded, 316 light (or whatever). And then be able to retrieve the EXACT SAME ITEM. This would also apply to exotics. Allow us to "deposit" an upgraded and infused weapon or armour piece AS IT IS, then be able to retrieve it in the same, upgraded form. Each kiosk/vault needs to be organized. Right now they are nothing but a big bucket. There is no way to sort anything. In this day of advanced databases, this is laughable. Bungie, please make this a priority (along with the bugs that needs squashing). Like and bump if you agree.

  • Bottom line is that a loot based type of game with limited storage space really sounds illogical. It eventually disturbs the player's efficiency of looting in game which makes for a poor design choice imho. Please be more like "Dark Souls" with a BOTTOMLESS BOX...and it's not even a loot game lol...BUNGiE please take note to this for Destiny and if not then its sequel for damn sure, you know better.

      • People are just hoarders if you have filled up a character itself to the point you take up 72 pieces of weapons and armor in the vault to complain about it.

        • If your vault is full then that's your bad. There is no reason to have that many weapons/gear. Especially since what we have will be irrelevant in the next couple of months. Time to let go out your items just rotting in the vault. I swear you hoarders annoy the hell out of me with this more vault space shit. It's like your loot is an ex girlfriend you can't let go of.

          • Well said buddy, why should we be forced to delete weapons and armor that we spent days, weeks, months grinding for? Even if we keep them for sentimental reasons because you decided to make them useless. Lets keep bumping this see if bungie actually listen to its legacy players who have invested not only time but $200+ into their game

                • Every week after running all my raids I have to go through my vault deleting stuff which I would wanna keep. I agree with the post 100%. We should have space to keep whatever armor and weapons we want without having to worry about the space at all.

                    • The thing that made me so frustrated on the topic of vault space is that Bungie checked player's vaults concluding that most players had ~3 spots open. They made the assumption that players were fine because they still had space, not realizing that people purposely left three spots free to transfer weapons between characters, because we had no space.

                      • Only reason why my vault isn't currently full is because I force myself to do monthly cleanings. I've gotten rid of almost every weapon and armor I had in Year 1.

                        • Vault holds 72 weapons and 72 armors.... each character holds up to 10 of each weapon class and armor pieces, that's 30 weapons and 50 armors, on 3 characters for a total of 90 weapons and 150 armors.......... all together you can hold 162 weapons and 222 armors.................... the obvious solution is just get rid of what you dont need.... dont know how anyone could need all 162 weapons and 222 armors

Compared to other loot based games the vault space is absolutely enormous. Diablo series, torchlight, world of Warcraft, various d&d computer games, other numerous mmorpgs, borderlands series, and so on have an even more limited vault and storage system than this game, and have exponentially larger and more varied loot. People call it a hoarder issue because it is. There is more than enough space to be able to use a different setup out of the vault every day for more months on end. When was the last time you actually even thought of doing that? You are collecting crap you will never touch or use again after putting it in the vault. Why? What is the point of more vault space when all you are going to do is drop stuff in it and never touch it again?

                            • Haha. Vault space was an issue even before TDB was released and even back then Bungie said they felt we had plenty of storage space. Those idiots can't even figure out vault space it's no wonder the rest of the game is going to shit.

I'd still have a handful of my favourite weapons if 'Lack of Vault space' was never a thing!!!!! And now we have more Vault space we can't re acquire old weapons (for PVP purposes) but we can still acquire the old year 1 faction ships!!! Faction Rank up packages should give the chance at any weapon that Faction has ever had. For anyone that doesn't understand this if you rank up say Dead Orbit, as well as the chance to get a current weapon you also have the chance of getting the Venation hand canon, or any other old weapon they previously sold!
