CRUCIBLE EXPERIENCE DEPENDS ENTIRELY ON CONNECTION QUALITY
Tried out the new control matchmaking yesterday. Went in solo after hearing the planet destiny podcast say they had a good experience with the connection and thought I would see for myself.
I don't PVP a lot and found out exactly why I rage and hate PVP for the last year and a half while I played in crucible last night.
Not for reasons you might think though.
I HAD A BLAST IN PVP CONTROL LAST NIGHT BECAUSE MY HITS WERE ACTUALLY REGISTERING. I WASN'T HAVING A SINGLE SHOT AUDIBLE QUEUE AND DYING MOMENTARILY RIGHT AFTER BEFORE I HAD TIME TO REACT like he whole last year and a half.
I actually had so much fun after playing crucible after last night because I had a decent connection to the match.
Do you have any idea how frustrating and rage inducing it is to play at the severe disadvantage of milliseconds delay that others have had the advantage of all this time?
It was so awesome to have the player I had had to learn to anticipate before, hoping I cold be fast enough coming into view, shoot with proper hit registration and and actually be able to have his reaction shots register the correct amount giving me a fair chance of out shooting him by position/timing/anticipation.
All this time I truly believed I was horrible at playing PVP hating every minute of it until last night where my K/D rose dramatically ( like a 5.0 dramatically which is literally a miracle with someone with my crucible history)
Turns out my experience in PVP is almost entirely dependent upon YOU, YOUR MATCHMAKING/ whatever you want to call it.
Whatever it was, THANK YOU, for giving me a chance to play the game fair and square on a playing field at least level with the other 11 players in the match. When I got out gunned I knew it. It was obvious how I had been out played. I was totally ok with it. No rage because I knew it was my bad positioning/ anticipation/ gunplay/ etc.
All the you tubers and twitch streamers complaining of "sweaty matches" made me so sick. That was my experience EVERY TIME I queued in. Those guys hated it, no wonder I did too. I just couldn't put my finger on why until I had a decent connection to the match. The latency preference you gave the other players over my good connection WAS EVERYTHING!!!
I was penalized for the good connection all this time. I had a wonderful time with it. It was fun again.
The you tuber/ streamers referred to the fun games as " beer and pizza matches" 'Tefty Teft'. I didn't even know what that was. Man it was FUN!!!
I finally get it. I'm nothing special in the crucible but man it's fun if you have a fair connection without the latency.
Whatever Switch you pulled, IT WORKED.
I cannot believe I'm actually looking forward to IB ( even though I know you won't be implementing this same change to matchmaking there...... yet.)
It gives me hope. Thanks for finally making it somewhat fair for me to play. I had a blast.
BTW: tried a bunch of clash matches afterward just to see the difference and holy cow was it confirmed the the most dramatic way. That was the "same old song and dance" that I raged against. Hit delay, seeing an opponent come around a corner and have half my health bar gone with a single hit register audible, dead and a moment later and I've gotten one pulse of shots in, moving behind cover the very moment I detect getting hit already having only a sliver of health left as the final round registers my death after I'm behind the corner (appears as though I'm shot through the wall). Or getting the drop on a player who reacts and kills me before I can even take his shield down.
No question about it. My crucible experience, sadly, depends entirely upon YOU /YOUR MATCHMAKING/ CONNECTION FIDELITY.
It really can be fun when that connection fidelity is good.
