Guardians,
The refinement of your competitive ecosystem continues. As you battle each other in the Crucible and discuss those experiences on the forum, we're taking stock of your reactions and sharing them with the team. Today, that same team is sharing back to you with some news on what's changing.
Effective Immediately: New Matchmaking settings are live in Control.
We've taken additional steps to increase the emphasis on connection quality. Skill ratings will be less a factor in finding you a match. Lag will be even further diminished. Enjoying a game with your friends who are more/less skilled than you are will be easier, but your opponents will be more random, so you will stand a better chance of getting your ass kicked - or vice versa. There is still some form of protection to insulate the casual players among us from the most hardcore, but those considerations will have much less impact on the technical quality of the matchup.
We have also extended Damage Referee (click and scroll down to "Out of Bounds" for context) to govern the impact that poor connections have on matches in Clash, Rumble, and Freelance 3v3. It is still live in Control, where it was originally deployed.
As always, your visceral real-time reactions to these changes in a live-fire exercise are more important than the math. Sound off and let us know how it feels. For now, your test-bed for the new settings is exclusive to Control. Get in there and control the zones. Let us know if you'd like to see these changes deployed far and wide.
It's an ongoing process, and you're the most important part of it. Thank you!
UPDATE (02/18/2016): Matchmaking tuning has been revised to prioritize finding people who are close to your locality in the interest of further reducing lag.

Really hating crucible right now with all the people that just cannot live without their them special ammo and resort to exploit and thus you get put in a disadvantage, instead of fixing it is now worst than ever.
-
From my experience in Rumble it was actually worse after the update. GJ.

Edited by Fawkes: 2/19/2016 5:09:20 AMWhy is skill not important or "less" important when finding "competitive" matches? Seriously... Do people really enjoy getting destroyed or destroying other players? Is this seriously what the community wants? I personally want games that are close as hell, nail bitters if you will. I hate games where my team obliterates the opposite team and I also hate getting destroyed. I'd be fine with some lag with a close game than play a lag "free" game and be destroyed. Why do we even have to choose skill over connection any way? Why? Where's that answer Bungie? Thought this was a "next gen shooter". Where's the "next gen" PvP match making? Thought the team that basically created Xbox live MM and parties could do a bit better than making us choose over connect and skill... Guess I thought wrong. EDIT: I must also be in the minority BC I rarely experience lag. Well, this magical lag that apparently so many experience in which they can't land shots but the lagger can. I also don't play crucible like a job so maybe that's also why... Still want skill based system.

Edited by MindfulPizza: 2/19/2016 10:32:37 AMi like say thank you on control , nice , not having ghost hits and when dodge actually dodges them and the sound equal most the matches now. Now can you get Sony to open up , are upload speeds , for the PS4. it sucks when got 3mbs upload on ps4 , when every device i got can get 15-25mb, upload. It mainly comcast users that not getting there upload speeds fast on ps4, download on ps4 is half normal at 44mb , but that understand because they want download stuff while playing , also can add advance matchmaking , were can choose global as default , then options for regions people ,like NA, EU, asia/AU, north america , europe , asia /austrialia . and warning to them that may take longer if not use default. this allow those that know they got great connections to do global and those with crap ones can choose the best region.

Never lagged this bad till this update...

Edited by KnightsXB: 2/19/2016 10:06:30 AMI turned off my Netduma which I use to control the radius I play people from as Bungie seem incapable of doing, so I could check the new update. Wow, I forgot how bad lag is in crucible and this is an update. I think I will stick to using Netduma router like TrippleWreck. Bungie, you need to offer Netduma routers to PvP players for free, might be cheaper than keep trying to beat your dead horse!

Edited by Val44: 2/19/2016 10:01:58 AMGood work . The match making was better . It felt like i was facing 50 % low level scrubs , around 30 % good players . The rest was me and my 2 homies. 2 of us being in the top 15 % . So the game had a variety of skill levels represented. That was good. We had 2 close matches , 1 blowout and 1 match that went like 20000 - 12000 . I was getting my representative K/D of around 1.5 . I had 1 match where the opponent team was lagging . That match my K/D went down to 0.8 . One Guy on our team was apparently not affected by the lag and got a whooping 30+ kills and a 3+ K/D . I suppose the other team had a group made up of individuals from different continents. Maybe put those type of groups in a different MM pool. So in essence , i like this new MM more than the old even though i still think they should completely ditch sbmm AND CREATE A RANKED PLAYLIST , but this will do . I can compromise on this.

Tried again today Clash So connections are all green in orbit bam Half red half green crap game Control half red half green awesome game My suggestion get rid of the colours Obviously not changing the p2p server system so if we are to run the connection through the designated Xbox are they not the ones controlling the colours and not bungie

Getting your ass kicked isn't the problem it's the fact that we're getting our asses kicked by immortal lagers and the fact that you have to choose between four guns to stand a chance in pvp balance your game deejbag.

Thanks DeeJ this is a step in the right direction. The red bars are gone and I can enjoy the game without frustrations beyond my control (another persons bad connection). As for blowouts I say give it some time as the ones who really wish to play will stay, play more skilled opponents and get better. The ones who want to have tea parties in the crucible (the ones who quit anyway after a minor frustration) will either dedicate themselves to playing better or just leave entirely. Either way PvP will be better off without the entitled cry babies.

Be honest for once. It is still sweat based match matching. I don't see what is so hard about switching to CBMM, like every other multi-player game.

Please turn sbmm off. Its aids. Thanks

Was great yesterday, no lag. Today it was awful. I actually got killed by arcblade before the bladedancer even slashed me. Yes he was red barred.

I think you should lower drop rates of all the "bro" guardians with deconstructive feedback and let them suffer. Also anyone who uses the word noob should also take this penalty as well as suck a dick. Im sorry you have such horrible people as fans Bungie. I notice the change and I find it to be a bit better. I do like what I am hearing about having a community match making and a competitive. Keep doing what you are doing I am very excited for Destiny 2. I do agree the current PVE could use a bit of work however I am sure you are working on it based on all of the other changes you have made from your fans feedback. Thanks bungie, suck it haters.

There should be more than one free lance mode.... But I love the direction you're going in, Thanks for helping the solo players.

Why is it every time there is a patch update xbox core services go to shit and no one can get back into destiny for a minimum of 30 minutes.
-
It seems to be working great for me now. Good job and thank you. I did run into some laggy players on my first match in control but after a few minutes it ran flawlessly. Every game after that ran with very few hiccups. I played around 9 matches in a row. All were great except for the first one. Again thank you.

Edited by Quarantane : 2/19/2016 11:55:32 AMAre any of these changes to matchmaking effecting the classic playlists? I don't have ttk, so I'm wondering if anything has changed for me
