Guardians,
The refinement of your competitive ecosystem continues. As you battle each other in the Crucible and discuss those experiences on the forum, we're taking stock of your reactions and sharing them with the team. Today, that same team is sharing back to you with some news on what's changing.
Effective Immediately: New Matchmaking settings are live in Control.
We've taken additional steps to increase the emphasis on connection quality. Skill ratings will be less a factor in finding you a match. Lag will be even further diminished. Enjoying a game with your friends who are more/less skilled than you are will be easier, but your opponents will be more random, so you will stand a better chance of getting your ass kicked - or vice versa. There is still some form of protection to insulate the casual players among us from the most hardcore, but those considerations will have much less impact on the technical quality of the matchup.
We have also extended Damage Referee (click and scroll down to "Out of Bounds" for context) to govern the impact that poor connections have on matches in Clash, Rumble, and Freelance 3v3. It is still live in Control, where it was originally deployed.
As always, your visceral real-time reactions to these changes in a live-fire exercise are more important than the math. Sound off and let us know how it feels. For now, your test-bed for the new settings is exclusive to Control. Get in there and control the zones. Let us know if you'd like to see these changes deployed far and wide.
It's an ongoing process, and you're the most important part of it. Thank you!
UPDATE (02/18/2016): Matchmaking tuning has been revised to prioritize finding people who are close to your locality in the interest of further reducing lag.

Are these settings active in all play lists or one? I've been playing the same laggy kids everyday
-
I don't care about getting pub stomped I care about being able to play without other non-game factors affecting how we play. I feel like y'all trying to push the pub stomp agenda so we regret ever asking for sbmm to be removed. Sbmm was not fun in any way. It was too much lag.
-
As of yesterday after the patch I saw more lag the. I have in months. Like very bad teleporters who were not taking damage. I played freelance 3v3, salvage and clash.
-
Yesterday, it really felt like CBMM. No lag, less sweaty. But today, it is like it used to be. Red bars shooting through multiple walls, teleporting immortal guardians all over the place, sweaty people. What happened?
-
I think people might be exaggerating the effects of SBMM. Every online video game I've ever played, I have been matched with different people from different countries all the time. I'm not usually one to defend Bungies practices...but is it not too much to ask that you get matched with only people close to you? Or maybe people are unfairly correlating enemy player location with lag? Seriously, I'm middle America and used to raid with a bunch of British dudes I met in PvP. Never had connection issues or problems with them.
-
If your in a fireteam and dont live near any of your friends who does it pick to run the matchmaking off? Is it the fireteam lead?
-
You need to remove that aim assist from sniper rifles, and place it on all auto rifles. That is all. - Clone Out
-
Played 4 games today and they have -blam!-ing filled with red bars. Sucks the fun right out of the game.
-
Hot fix is utter Bull Shit.
-
Solo searching is still not good. As a top 1% pvp player, I'm still getting sweats almost every game. Take out SBMM completely. I don't want to have to try my ass off with the same weapons every game.

Edited by Ω=S/\m TΞktzb¥=Ω: 2/19/2016 7:04:13 PMAnd it is here Another update for PvP *srcasm on Great job Bungie, awesome..i hope PvE will die soon as you want *sarcasm off Honestly after that bazilion of post in favour of PvE?! And you are again in PvP, what i can tell. Shame on you, why you did not release Destiny as PvP only if you are that deeply biased in favour on PvP?? I thought we will have cooperative PvE gameplay too. I still remember: That awesome storytelling That hill what we can explore That weapons what we grinded in year one and what will be viable in year two And many many other stories what you made but never fullfill. Shame, nothing else just shame.

Everyone just look at this PvP needs to change
-
Whatever is being done is working in my opinion. Even when I come across a lager they can be killed now. I like what I'm seeing in matches for sure
-
So i have to slide jump round corners whilst headshotted by every gun who are are using 4 sensitivity because twitch users are, really toe shots
-
Yesterday was near on perfect, today is much worse actually. I fail to believe there's nobody in the UK playing, all I see is Germans.
-
I've noticed a vast improvement since the update. My shots are finding their mark and my K/D per game is getting back up to where it use to be. I'm actually looking forward to the next Iron Banner unlike the nightmare sweat fest that was the last one. Thanks guys :)
-
Match making so far = being re-paired with the same 11 people you just left because of the sniper shit fest that this has become..... Surely there must be more than 11 ppl online for me to play against?
-
Yeah it's changed so much. Playing control. Start the game with a 10 kill spree. Then proceed to get killed 5 times in a row by complete bs deaths. Then pop my blade dancer. Get one hit melee'd by a friggin blink strike. Suddenly my skip grenades just don't track any one anymore. Sniper shots just stop registering. Finish the game with a 1.07 kd. Look at the connections and what a surprise. Now four people on other team are red bar.
-
Just crazy that people still have lag issues with 25 MILLION registered users
-
Haven't noticed any changes. Make it purely connection based you dipshits
-
I do not find playing against a bunch of try hards fun, you reward the the best players with the best weapons (trials lighthouse) making them better? Skill base connection was better, just drop players with bad connections.
-
I've noticed a positive difference. Not as much lag. I appreciate people at bungie trying to fix this problem. But I send positive feed back from the uk.
-
Implement a ranking system. Otherwise this game will never be any kind of competitive

Edited by chickengoujohn93: 2/19/2016 11:29:01 AMI am beginning to believe that this whole red barring advantage in the Crucible is a complete myth and people are just in denial using this as an excuse or as a scape goat to why they die rather than accept defeat. I think every death is now blamed by lag... "Oh I died, oh one of my teammates is Red bar, blam that guy!" I have shit enough internet and I am from Ireland. I red bar in Raids, Strikes and PvP and I don't think I have ever been green bar in PvP. I have an overall KD 1.0 which is bang average. Red barring does not prevent me from getting killed in PvP.
-
Really hating crucible right now with all the people that just cannot live without their them special ammo and resort to exploit and thus you get put in a disadvantage, instead of fixing it is now worst than ever.
