Guardians,
The refinement of your competitive ecosystem continues. As you battle each other in the Crucible and discuss those experiences on the forum, we're taking stock of your reactions and sharing them with the team. Today, that same team is sharing back to you with some news on what's changing.
Effective Immediately: New Matchmaking settings are live in Control.
We've taken additional steps to increase the emphasis on connection quality. Skill ratings will be less a factor in finding you a match. Lag will be even further diminished. Enjoying a game with your friends who are more/less skilled than you are will be easier, but your opponents will be more random, so you will stand a better chance of getting your ass kicked - or vice versa. There is still some form of protection to insulate the casual players among us from the most hardcore, but those considerations will have much less impact on the technical quality of the matchup.
We have also extended Damage Referee (click and scroll down to "Out of Bounds" for context) to govern the impact that poor connections have on matches in Clash, Rumble, and Freelance 3v3. It is still live in Control, where it was originally deployed.
As always, your visceral real-time reactions to these changes in a live-fire exercise are more important than the math. Sound off and let us know how it feels. For now, your test-bed for the new settings is exclusive to Control. Get in there and control the zones. Let us know if you'd like to see these changes deployed far and wide.
It's an ongoing process, and you're the most important part of it. Thank you!
UPDATE (02/18/2016): Matchmaking tuning has been revised to prioritize finding people who are close to your locality in the interest of further reducing lag.

Edited by zJDz: 2/19/2016 6:54:56 PMMake a ranked playlist with SBMM and an UNRANKED playlist with CBMM. Give us a choice either we want to try our hardest or goof around. Right now it's try your hardest or get destroyed. My destiny playtime has gone down a lot, it has become less and less enjoyable. Why can't you have a ranked 3v3 and 2v2 playlist where players are ranked from 1 to 50 on skill? Then everything else is fun lobbies were we play around with new and different guns? WE WANT CBMM BACK STOP THIS STUPID SBMM IN EVERY PLAYLIST!!!!! You can't even do the gunsmith crucible bounties anymore because it puts you at a huge disadvantage.
-
Bottom line is there is still mechanisms in place that are setting out to protect players. I wish I could believe other wise but I have played enough crucible to know that match making is still messed up.
-
I think you may have made it worse. Go back to year one matchmaking already, no one likes what you currently have. I understand a lot of work has gone in to it but sometimes you need to say "we were wrong" and go back to what worked and what people enjoyed.

Edited by Madness2189: 2/19/2016 6:33:04 PMIf you fix your game I will spend $100 at the ingame shop. 1. Aggressive and Prejudice banning of cheaters. 2. Removal of metas. 3. Proper balance. 4. Internet requirements. 5. Large maps back. 6. Original crucible. 7. No more stupid infusion 8. Stats and light (not perks) off ghosts, artifacts, and class items. 9. Being killed by the architects. 10. No more welfare loot. 11. Useful raid weapons and gear. 12. Extention of revive immortality. 13. Lfg posting for anything that doesn't have matchmaking. 14. Edited by SlothxC93: 2/19/2016 5:24:24 PMWhy am I getting matched up against a fire team of 4+ players on the other team EVERY GAME? Balance groups with groups etc If you have a team a 4 and then 2 solos then surely the other team should get a group of 4 and 2 solos

" As always, your visceral real-time reactions to these changes in a live-fire exercise are more important than the math." RIP sunsingers.

Guys this has gone too far. Bungie I have a question that you are too scared and too afraid to admit all of your mistakes. Why do you only do fixes that portray the things YOU only think needs fixing. Why do you NEVER go with the actual good ideas of your PAYING CUSTOMERS, but instead you only fix problems that PROBLEM YOU THE MOST? This game was never made for ur lazy worthless ass DeeJ, it was meant for the customers. So quick throwing the terrible ideas you have in the mix and do something worth while to this game
-
Just a suggestion you didn't make it easier to report people for cheating or lagging or bogus connections it it's too hard to report somebody besides just the little click on this and report this player and report has been sent that I mean that is just too easy of a way to say that you reported somebody and then somebody else just to overlook it I mean I've been playing crucibles for the past 5 weeks now and it has been nothing but a lag fest I mean one minute you're in a lobby that you can shoot pretty good and then the next thing you're in a long be with other person yellow barn and you will throw a throwing knife at somebody and it takes him 10 minutes to die and they had just a little bitty piece of health club so I mean you're not doing anything with your game but heading out in the news that you're doing something with the game so let's stop with the BS and let's just get to fix in the game or giving people refunds on their money that they paid for this game or give me a couple of months of free internet because I'll pay $130 a month for Internet and all I get is somebody lag me out with a $10 connection this is ridiculous I pay lot of money for my connection and in for just somebody to come along with a crappy connection just kill me like its nothing and then you put 150 bullets into them and then you die and he got somebody standing there dancing on your body or waving to you haha you can't kill me
-
This is probably a daft question with an obvious answer. But how will it work if you prioritise it to find local players to help reduce lag further.? I might have a fireteam of say 2 from the UK and 4 from different States across America . ?

I understand that Bungie is company, but more so a group of people, with families. Hours worked away from their loved ones, attempting to work hard to give us, a sometimes fickle and hungry fan base. They may agree or not, the direction it is going, but I firmly believe they care and have pride, and enthusiasm in the jobs they do. Take heart that, regardless if the different activities are met with a different response than intended, those of us that truly love the game, are pulling for you guys and appreciate the sacrifice that is made from the time away from your families. Don't be crushed from the negative responses, if anything, be aware of the level and scope the community has. Use it and see that together it could actually push us all to propel Destiny to a greater level of game than we otherwise could believe. I admire, and respect your efforts, I appreciate each and everyone of you guys (and girls), keep your heads up and know that there are those of us out here who are proud of your perseverance regardless. Thank you. Ps. I've begged since the beta for poor B Robot (the lonely sweeping robot by the shipyard, whom I've long since named and petitioned for to be free, "B" Robot) to get a bit of freedom by walking around, sweeping the leaves in the courtyard, or mopping the ever existing puddle by the outfitter, and even having dance offs when we dance near him. Or just having "B" float above his head like the other important NPC'S. Or at the least, seeing as how I've tried since beta day 1, to let him say "Hey Cowboy Samurai." When I wave to him. Just hoping ;) Either way, love you guys, keep up the good work...

Edited by JHarv: 2/17/2016 10:04:47 PMWould really love to hear something about the direction of PvE in this game. After all, I think that's why most people bought Destiny in the first place. With every successive DLC or expansion, there has been less emphasis on PvE and almost every update has catered to the PvP community. Vanillaa Destiny had new and exciting nightfalls that kicked you to orbit upon wipe and were well worth the reward as you had a fair chance of acquiring top level exotic items. It also had a fantastic raid in the Vault of Glass, as well as weekly heroic runs (where strange coins were absolutely something you wanted to farm, especially early on), and a very important gear chase through raiding. Raid weapons and armor were the most powerful in the game by a long shot. Anybody else remember rocking Found Verdict, Praedyth's Revenge, Fatebringer, Corrective Measure, Vision of Confluence for as long as we did? On top of that, vanguard strikes felt fun and had a purpose (mark farming), we had a Queen's Wrath PvE event for a week which was kinda neat. Overall, it was a good time for the PvE world, minus the assumptions that we were going to have larger worlds with "rich, cinematic storytelling" Crota's End saw a step forward, but also back. The radiant materials grind was frustrating, the raid wasn't much longer (or challenging) than doing a strike, however I'm not about to complain as we still had more than enough to do in the PvE world. Hey, even farming bounties and blades of Crota was a regular thing for me. I found myself out on patrol or firing up a story mission almost every day. House of Wolves saw even more of a step back with the introduction of the Prison of Elders, which was just a glorified horde mode that got boring after a couple weeks. I farmed it for a while, sure, but I'm a gear hound. I want those etheric lights. I want to upgrade all of my previous armor pieces. Still, it was fun to have lots to do in the PvE world, now that old content and gear was relevant again, however it doesn't excuse the lack of producing anything new and exciting, like more planets or raids similar to VoG. Key farming was a hoot, though. Bounties still had purpose. I still ran nightfalls and heroics, patrols for bounties, but by this point, doing VoG, Crota's End, and all of the strikes for the 100th+ time was getting old. The game really started to take a turn toward the PvP side with the introduction of the Trials of Osiris. And that brings us to TTK, where the PvE scene is frustrating at best, and painful boring and hopeless at worst. Chasing light levels endlessly, for months. One single raid to farm for... well it remains to be seen, but it's been a while now. No announcements of anything new on the horizon. Bounties and patrols are rendered useless with the nerf to rep gains. Heroic strikes for marks aren't very rewarding, and much more challenging than they need to be (especially in comparison to old vanguard heroics or tiger/dragon strikes, which were so quick), the Court of Oryx kept people busy for a couple weeks, farming blues and purples just so they could gear up for the raid. The 3 of coins has made Xur pretty much pointless. Engrams galore, all of which have a 0.04% chance to decrypt into something mildly useful. Kingsfall loot that either doesn't drop, or gets dismantled just as much as 265 blues. The game feels extremely unrewarding of the time you invest in it, and there isn't very much to do, either. It's Wednesday, and I'm already bored. I don't know what else to go in and do, other than queue up for another Crucible match to be either clipped with a 1k stare, or warriored with a Conspiracy Theory or Party Crasher. You guys are going to have to work really hard to reverse the trend, unless you truly want this game to become Call of Destiny. And if that's the direction it's going, we deserve to know. We deserve to hear the plan, not "that we're planning more, so stay tuned" Level with us. Give us something, man.
-
So when do these changes actually go live? I'm still seeing red bars galore, and getting matched against people from the uk
-
It does not matter about about match making when it comes to lag switchers . That is the problem that they just turn a switch and boom they are invincible them after they are winning boom they turn it off and they are green again
-
Skill ratings will be less of a factor in finding you a match
What a joke. Did they reduce it by a fraction of a percentage? I hop on to test it out last night and I get thrown into a game with ifrostbolt. Knowing that couldn't be right I looked up all the other players after the match and only 2 aren't in the top 5%. One was in a fireteam with somebody in the top 1% the other just got shafted because somebody left the other team and they needed to fill a position. So I'm supposed to believe that I just so happen to have a better connection with people that are in the top 5% than the other 95% of players. Yeah right. Especially since they were still teleporting all over the map with heavy machine guns.
-
best update ever tnhe game ran smooth last night
-
Red bar armor is still rampant in Crucible. You idiots will never get it right.
-
Same issues, If not worse. 3v3 matches, haven't completed one without losing a member of my team, even when winning. Tried five times, same result. Control? Been dropped into sweaty matches that all zones are already captured and team mates dying on spawn from misadventure? Something ain't right.
-
Wow, I can't believe you created halo... Obj, wait, the best of you're team stayed with Microsoft.. only the losers sold out to China. Fvck you bungie.
-
Still fighting players with grimoire 4000+ grimoire only. Its still skill based and lag. Keep trying. Thx
-
I was on last night. Terrible lag. Trying to get a match took forever. Way too slow and too long.
-
Great, 10% of the players is top tier and they have a lag problem sweaty matches. Give these 10% what they want. Just don't care about the other 90% that probably liked sbmm. They finally had a change to have some fun in pvp without getting killed by elitists over and over. You nerfed all weapons for the endless complainers, no this. Noobs like me will just stop playing pvp.
-
BROKEN! 3 hours to get on a winning team in salvage. Your matchmaking system SUCKS!
-
New fixes comes new frustrations. Constantly getting kick on the last 20-40 seconds and returned to orbit. Bird, Vulture and all sorts getting through at me here. Never had a problem before with getting kicked from any matches. I understand it's a working progress. I can live with it for now.. This is just to make you aware of the problem ( I ) am having. Have a nice day old son's.
-
Adjustments don't seem to be working. I've been trying to go for my sun singer crucible quest (radiance multi kills) right now is not the best time for this :(
