Matchmaking Update - 2/17/2016
Guardians,
The refinement of your competitive ecosystem continues. As you battle each other in the Crucible and discuss those experiences on the forum, we're taking stock of your reactions and sharing them with the team. Today, that same team is sharing back to you with some news on what's changing.
[b]Effective Immediately[/b]: New Matchmaking settings are live in [b][u]Control[/u][/b].
We've taken additional steps to increase the emphasis on connection quality. Skill ratings will be less a factor in finding you a match. Lag will be even further diminished. Enjoying a game with your friends who are more/less skilled than you are will be easier, but your opponents will be more random, so you will stand a better chance of getting your ass kicked - or vice versa. There is still some form of protection to insulate the casual players among us from the most hardcore, but those considerations will have much less impact on the technical quality of the matchup.
We have also extended Damage Referee ([url=https://www.bungie.net/7_This-Week-At-Bungie--02042016/en/News/News?aid=44307]click and scroll down to "[b]Out of Bounds[/b]" for context[/url]) to govern the impact that poor connections have on matches in [b]Clash[/b], [b]Rumble[/b], and [b]Freelance 3v3[/b]. It is still live in [b]Control[/b], where it was originally deployed.
As always, your visceral real-time reactions to these changes in a live-fire exercise are more important than the math. Sound off and let us know how it feels. For now, your test-bed for the new settings is exclusive to [b]Control[/b]. Get in there and control the zones. Let us know if you'd like to see these changes deployed far and wide.

literally a worse change thats supposedly been made today, the connections were worse than yesterday - and even still there was a fair amount of lag in those games too

Inferno Control 6v6 is terrible without special ammo, it's just people spamming TLW, with no way to really counter them. If you don't make it to the special, you can beat you'll be hit by a charging TLW user or, alternatively, while dealing with them you have to answer to a scout rifle user waiting for you to be distracted by a TLW.

I've tried the new Control and the lag is real, players are not matched on signal as they are bouncing red bars, yellow bars against full teams all with green bars, you cannot divorce yourselves from SBMM. Try again Bungie, only this time start from connection only , 100% connection - no ifs no buts. Connect me with local people not intercontinental, people, only from my own country. I do not care how skilled people are I will soon learn to match them, what I cannot do is fight against grossly unfair lag !!!

1 ReplyMatching in to people that show green bars in orbit, but when i drop in game 2 or 3 players from each team suddenly drop to yellow bars.. can we not have the old year 1 system, where everybody was fully green barred connections (with 1 or 2 slightly less than fully green barred - but still a green connection)

This game is becoming less and less fun and now Bungie lies to us? This is still Skill Based Matchmaking no matter what the hell Bungie says. As an alpha player, I am taking a break from this joke of a multiplayer experience. Do you guys even play your game? Because there is no way you can call PvP fun right now. Control included.

1 ReplyFrom what im reading it sounds like the same stunt they pulled last iron banner , when they fixed it for 1 day and then went back to a different setting without telling us. They are testing us to see what they can get away with. They really think we dont notice the changes? Yesterday it was fine for me ( in control) . By the reads in this thread , im dreading to come on tonight.

I live in Finland (which is in Northern Europe), and i'm still getting consistently matched with North American, South European, and Middle Eastern players. The connection is always poor when that happens, that happens all the time, and when one or more of these players who are not in my region are lagging badly the damage ref doesn't seem to do anything. I'm realistic and don't expect consistent local matchmaking (and by local i mean Nordic lobbies, not just other Finns), if the lobbies consisted of players from Northern, Western and Easter Europe that would be an improvement. Just give us a matchmaking system that is truly based on connection and region, and stop trying to do SBMM.

I haven't touched this game since the week before King's Fall hard mode dropped. The outrage I have seen across the internet because of the state of this game made me want to come on here and investigate. It is safe to say you guys are doing a horrendous job. No new content apart from some stupid valentines event (apparently it sucked) and you have only just announced something for this year? Wow. New content is great, but when the only thing to do now is crucible and it is an absolute mess do you really think people are going to stick around? I had faith that this game would one day get better...never saw it getting worse, and it has. What a shame. I genuinely feel sorry for the people that still love this game and have to put up with all of its shit.

8 RepliesMy second time commenting on this thread. Why? Because that's how -blam!-ing pissed I am at how garbage the crucible -blam!-ing is. I was with this game for the long haul. Perfect headshots not registering. Meles not registering. People using supers while tethered. Your special ammo nerf had a cheese before you even implemented the nerf. Red bars are now harder to kill because not only do you have to hit them while they are skipping everywhere. But now you have to pray to RnG that your bullets count. The list goes on and on. And by reading thru the comments, almost the entire -blam!-ing community is experiencing the same pathetic bull poop. I've played ps2 games with better -blam!-ing hit detection than I'm seeing in 2016 with destiny.

I believe the reaction to [b]SBMM[/b] your getting from this [i]dedicated[/i] community is hostile. Due to the fact matches have this ominous feeling of being [b]fixed[/b]. Minor changes have been made on your part & the community reaction has been volatile. But are we unjust for feeling this way? [b]SBMM[/b] has turned into a dispute of who is right & who is wrong. It could be interpreted as a senses of pride & ownership of the game. Developers vs Customers. At some point we must come together and resolve this ongoing dispute. In Layman terms & for the sake of the argument just get rid of the skill ratings all together. The Destiny community is by no means attempting to hinder the game by making such proposals. The community is only attempting to improve the standard & condition of the game. We all have faith in Bungie high caliber team to provide the ideal conditions in a awe-inspiring game. ---Sips tea---

Right now it's try your hardest or get destroyed. My destiny playtime has gone down a lot, it has become less and less enjoyable. Why can't you have a ranked 3v3 and 2v2 playlist where players are ranked from 1 to 50 on skill? Then everything else is fun lobbies were we play around with new and different guns? WE WANT CBMM BACK STOP THIS STUPID SBMM IN EVERY PLAYLIST!!!!! You can't even do the gunsmith crucible bounties anymore because it puts you at a huge disadvantage.
