Guardians,
The refinement of your competitive ecosystem continues. As you battle each other in the Crucible and discuss those experiences on the forum, we're taking stock of your reactions and sharing them with the team. Today, that same team is sharing back to you with some news on what's changing.
Effective Immediately: New Matchmaking settings are live in Control.
We've taken additional steps to increase the emphasis on connection quality. Skill ratings will be less a factor in finding you a match. Lag will be even further diminished. Enjoying a game with your friends who are more/less skilled than you are will be easier, but your opponents will be more random, so you will stand a better chance of getting your ass kicked - or vice versa. There is still some form of protection to insulate the casual players among us from the most hardcore, but those considerations will have much less impact on the technical quality of the matchup.
We have also extended Damage Referee (click and scroll down to "Out of Bounds" for context) to govern the impact that poor connections have on matches in Clash, Rumble, and Freelance 3v3. It is still live in Control, where it was originally deployed.
As always, your visceral real-time reactions to these changes in a live-fire exercise are more important than the math. Sound off and let us know how it feels. For now, your test-bed for the new settings is exclusive to Control. Get in there and control the zones. Let us know if you'd like to see these changes deployed far and wide.
It's an ongoing process, and you're the most important part of it. Thank you!
UPDATE (02/18/2016): Matchmaking tuning has been revised to prioritize finding people who are close to your locality in the interest of further reducing lag.

A ranked and unranked playlist would probably be best. This way, when you want to get better, challenge yourself, or even get better rewards, you go to ranked. And when you want to just play a nice game of crucible with some friends or want to relax, go to unranked. Ranked would be primarily SBMM and unranked would be primarily CBMM. And it could be switched easily. We should be able to switch between them like we do in raids or missions from normal mode to hard mode.

Somebody tell me if I should bother returning to Destiny now please? Not based on my stats but rather the lag in Crucible. Last time I played the game ppl were moonwalking mfs, the lag was so bad it was 1984 all over.

Edited by KieraKai, Kell of Ledges: 2/17/2016 10:35:57 PMI had a blast playing Doubles but couldn't win gun battles in Skirmish yesterday to save my life.. I may have to stop playing Crucible completely.. I can't do anything to improve my connection as we live out in the country and fiber optic hasn't been installed yet.. I've got the highest speed/quality service available out here.. I'm constantly checking NAT status and ping and rebooting if there is even a hint of a problem.. I've even started kicking the kids off streaming videos and music if I'm playing, in case it matters.. Do you guys have to -blam!- over everyone with mediocre/crappy internet service just bcoz of a few cheaters.. ?!
-
Doesn't seem like it. All i get is swets
-
thanks

Good.

Edited by Ivan_Ardon69: 2/17/2016 10:33:51 PMI have noticed a lot of people teleporting more than ever today, especially in control and clash. although I have enjoyed the games more because I don't want to be playing competitive 100% of the time. the PVE aspect of the game has hit a wall for me with all 3 raids done on Tuesday's and I am just waiting for that 1 elusive drop therefore I fill my time with PVP where I want to improve and not feel crappy all the time, however, recently I've felt i have to stick to what I'm good at so my stats don't suffer. Leading to my point.. I would like to see an unranked playlist (stats too) and a competitive one so I can try out new weapons new load outs etc and gut gud before taking them to the SBMM madness.

While I like the notion of SBMM it felt less fun, but now I have hopes this solution is the answer. I recall many team matches where the deciding rage vector was the egregious amounts of laggy users ruining the fun. Sure one match might be one sided, but the next match was just around the corner for an all new experience. Going up against a better class of skill pushes me all the harder.
-
Good. Hopefully as it slowly moves away from SBMM and more towards connections, players will be less likely to leave games after they get killed one time.
-
Damage referee is absolutely terrible. It will ruin this Game so much.
-
Pretty sure all you did was change what is considered a green connection. Now 90% of people have a good connection. But still teleport, don't take damage, and kill through walls.
-
What about PVE? Deej huh? Why so much PVP
-
absolutely no difference
-
This is awesome. Gonna try on my main account and then on an alternative account with baby character and see if I notice a difference

Edited by Red Angry Smurf: 2/17/2016 10:18:01 PMHey Deej! Ok I lied. My second question is: Chinese or Mexican food? ----Hard Light 4 Life---------------------

Edited by John Cronan: 2/17/2016 10:08:31 PMSence i bought the game i never played pvp much at all then i started playing the clash pvp and i got to say its alot of fun the loot drop is good well to be honest better than the strike playlist and for all the people complaining bungie is doing everything they can to make all customers happy just play the game and have fun also the crimson doubles was alot of fun too i hope u can do that every year :)
-
We the most important part want to get rid of SBMM and only EVER have CBMM. Seriously how is this even still in question
-
Too late I already quit, I hope the division crushes you. After hearing how you keep changing to more cbmm and nothing actually changing im pretty much done. And really p2p instead of dedicated servers? This game was obviously rushed and it's turned into a huge cash grab. Milk em dry I'm sure the loyal ones will just keep throwing money at the screen. Disappointment and deceit around every corner with this game.
-
Raid with me DeeJ. My completions for Kings Fall should be reason enough.
-
Im still struggling to get past the fact you gave away 320 ghost shells to everyone that completed 7 matches "legitimately" . You know how hard I (as well as most) grinned the raids for that damn thing and most the time come up with a stupid 319 or 300 for that matter?? Still while grinding i got 2 320 shells after 30 HM raids. So someone cried about their not being many drops of the shell and you give the shit away. Why not just increase the drop rate or something, or does your code not allow for that and this was the only work around to make the crier happy?
-
bungie please modify the sunbreaker to be good again.....
-
Yay even less reason to play PvP now that I've got less of a chance to, you know, face people on my level and actually -blam!-ing improve
-
Deej is replying! Sweet! I like this guy. My one and only question is..... Do you guys ever get pizza parties? ----Hard Light 4 Life---------------------
-
i 100% dissagree with sbmm but this change is better than nothing, i just hope you didnt adjust it by 0.04%
-
Sweet. Thanks for the update.

For the love of all things that make us insane in Destiny, make CMBB permanent. Skill Based sucks for high(er) tier players.
