Why I don't agree with bungie's idea for a xmas gift.

When I first wrote a post on here, I joked about how bungie's idea for a gift was pretty bad and how destiny's "fanboys" defended it. When the post went up I almost immediately was met with a negative response and sure enough here came the destiny's legion of fans to defend bungie's decision on the gift, and after I read comment after comment ,not just on my post but on other forums too, I couldn't find a reasonable explanation as to why the gift was justified. Most of the defense consisted of "we don't even deserve a gift." Or "they didn't have to give us anything." And then I thought "OF COURSE THEY HAVE TO GIVE YOU SOMETHING!" Many people want to forget the fact that bungie decided to release destiny as a full 60$ dollar game, and then release 2 separate 20$ expansion packs and then a separate 40$ expansion pack, making you waste 120$ and then in the end release it all together for the regular price of 60$. And yes, you could argue that "oh, you don't have to buy the expansion packs." But if you don't then 80% of your destiny experience will be locked behind a paywall. And the reason I am so mad is that it literally does not cost them a single dime to give you something like an exotic in the game. And also the fact that people defend this decision like if they owe their lives to bungie. In the end it just upsets me that people can be so sheep minded.
