Can someone explain the 3oC cooldown to me?

I keep hearing about this cooldown. I've looked it up on google and Reddit and I can't seem to get an accurate or consistent description. What is it that's "cooling down"? Is it the time between when you take the coin and kill the ultra that affects your exotic drop? Is it the time in which you have to wait before taking another? I just don't get it at all.

  • Speculation for now. I assume since people have received drops within10 minutes of each other, that perhaps they were updated only to prevent people from repeatedly killing the same ultra over and over. After one drops move on to a new boss and your ToC should behave normally.

Don't really think there is one, just a nerf to keep you from spamming an ultra boss, like Draksis, on a mission over and over again. I've gotten exotics back to back off of ToCs and I've had runs where I don't receive crap for 10-12. I wish they'd define its uses and cool downs with a timer similar to how consumables work.

  • It's a myth. Bungie once made an update so you couldn't rapidly kill the same ultra and keep getting engrams with ToC. Since this community loves jumping to conclusions about everything, people started saying there was a cool down for ToC. Bungie never said there is a cool down and it's been disproven repeatedly. You can use one, then immediately use another on a different ultra and get an engram. I've done it a few times and received engrams. I once used one on the Taken boss in the Valus strike, then one on Valus and got 2 engrams from him.

    • There's not a cooldown. It's just a ninja nerfed drop rate, since people actually getting exotic engrams was too OP.

      • Bungie has not clarified their statement on the issue. Until such time, everything is speculation.

        • I've heard lots of talk of the supposed cool down on three of coins. But I don't recall ever reading anything in the patch notes to back it up. Also in my own experience there seems to be no cool down. I've gotten the valus taarc strike with the taken gatelord and had an exotic drop from the gatelord and valus in the same strike in under 10mins. So for those who say there is cool down, I ask simply why it does not state so in the description of the consumable? and why are we able to hit them in rapid succession when another consumable with a cool down blocks the use of another. Ex heavy ammo synth.
