If Toland was separated from his physical body wouldn't he be able to use his 'song' and reach back to Crota's throne dimension or at least ours? Being a sunsinger and all I would expect that. Or was it his light was drained so much he lost his ability to sing. But that then contraries with the lights version of 'singing'.

I theorize that Toland cannot come back to the physical realm because from all accounts he is not "killing" in the overworld. He is just observing. To become powerful in that realm you need to follow "Sword Logic" and create your own throne before you can project back into the physical world. So far Toland has not shown any desire to do more than learn and report when he is able to. I believe Eris has some ability to commune with Toland, as she has been "touched" by the Darkness, and this is how we get any reports back from him.

But sunsingers have the ability to sing their 'song' and return to the previous realm they were in. He has no need for Sword Logic

I don't think he wants to regain his physical form...yet, and he has come to our dimension. Do you remember that light that guides you through all the taken king story missions and some of the Oryx raid.
