Trials of Osiris Questions and Advice?

I would really appreciate some advise guys. I want to go flawless again. The only time I have gone flawless was when I had two REALLY amazing players play with me. They both had over 2.0 KD and literally just needed a third BODY to enter. The whole time I was with them I didn't even SEE a person they were that good at killing. I went flawless on my own merit (and actually carried one of the other players sometimes) in year one, but year one was very different and easier. My questions that I have for you guys is as following: 1) How does light level matter (guns, armor, overall level, etc)? (a detailed description please, I want to understand). 2) Why is it that when I am 318 I get killed with X amount of hits to the head (three or four) by a MIDA multitool, but when I shoot the same player with mine, it takes like 5 or 6 hits to the head (despite me being a higher level and having the same level gun)? 3) When do you snipe a revive? I swear I have sniped at all different times during the revive animation and it never works (yes, always a headshot) but people do it to me so easily every time. 4) This one I am almost certain is a "no" but I will ask anyway: Is there a way to bolster your chances of being matched up against players with similar KD's as yours? I find it a bit ridiculous that a team of people with a 0.7 KDs in trials can be matched up with a team of players with a 2.5 KDs simply because they both have X amount of wins. It's completely ridiculous.... Any support or words of wisdom would help. I just feel like I am missing something because I do the same thing as other players and when I do it I get very different results and it is very discouraging. Please only real tips. Nothing like "get better nubbbb" or anything like that. I am legitimately trying to learn all the details of trials so my friend and I can get past 7 wins without losing (that is our record) finally go to mercury together. I have every weapon that is worth using and every class fully leveled up and unlocked. I can use any, but I prefer Nightstalker Hunter, Golden Gun Hunter, Striker Titan, any Warlock class (in that order). I do NOT use bladedancer, hammers, or defender in crucible...like, ever, as I am not very good with them. Advice?

  • There is a damage reduction curve based on your overall light level versus the opposing player. This however is pretty minimal unless one player is significantly underleveled. A 320 player will see less than a 5% damage reduction from a 300 player. Your MIDA anecdote just sounds like lag which is plaguing crucible right now. No joke, I have been 1 shotted by TLW with full health before. Obviously this wasnt really the case, but its what registered on my screen. Not like I should really give much advice as I havent been flawless yet (relatively new player), but it seems to me the key is to not overextend yourself during the match. Your fireteam should be all relatively close to one another unless you are trying to flank which obviously comes with some risk. If you arent good at sniping, dont challenge snipers. Try to get more than one gun on an enemy at a time. Obviously this increases your chance of killing them and tilting the odds in your team's favor. Do everything you can to prevent the revives on the other team. Vary your strategy each round (or every couple of rounds).
