Old meta was awful. It was 80% blade dancer competitive meta. Year 2 meta was great with pulse rifles and class balance. (Except the SunBreaker) December update plunged us into shit once again.

  • The problem with your comment is the word meta. I agree, the December update was awful. But there shouldn't be a specific "meta". The meta should be the guardians themselves that find different loadouts for any situation. Not put on a pulse and automatically wreck. Not put on a HC and automatically wreck, etc. There should be a variety in not only weapons, but in whole weapon types being used. There should NOT be a specific weapon type that stand out among the others. That's the problem with the way Bungie handles their "balancing"; they don't focus on specific weapon tuning. They focus on making whole weapon classes OP and unfair, when they should be focusing on true balance and letting players decide how they want to play.

  • Pulse rifle meta was meta because pulse rifles had the fastest TTK for precision based shooting. Autos(kinda) and scouts and hand cannons were all effective in Year 2 meta but there was a bigger issue: aim assist is too high in the game, which is half the reason people hate snipers. Pulse rifles were too easy to hit head shots with, and because of that, everyone used them.

Aim assist is not the problem. Or even a problem at all. People blame aim assist for two reason. The first being that they have no clue what it actually does. The second being that they hear other people saying its a problem, and automatically follow. Somehow, people got the idea that aim assist is basically an aim bit, and makes it so your guns automatically position on a targets head. This is no where near true. What aim assist actually does is just slow down your cross hairs (very, very slightly), when aimed over a target. It doesn't matter if you're aiming at someone's head or their feet. But it does NOT automatically aim at the head, and does not automatically make hitting headshots an easy task. A game with no aim assist, or nearly none at all, would feel very awkward and would just aggravate players even more.

  • There is no problem with his logic. Anything that has any competitive aspect will have a meta. Even sports that rely on your real skill have metas.

  • Ill do you one better and name two. Baseball- has had seasons dominated by certain types of pitchers. And with each the way batters have to play changes. Soccer- teams scout each other out, adjust their plays, and even add plays and practice them in order to counter their opponents plays. That's all metagaming and meta is. Using resources outside of the game to improve competitive match ups and operating/ adjusting your play based on strategic trends. Can be avoided.

This so wrong. Baseball does not have rotating archetypes for pitchers each season. I can't speak for soccer because I don't care for it, but I can speak for baseball. Each pitcher, unless retired, is typically played as much in a season as they were in the previous season. They do not change nearly anything they do, overall at least. They obviously change their techniques from batter to batter, but in no means change their whole approach to everything each season. And either way, this still has no correlation to a video game. Rotating metas every couple months in a game is flat out ridiculous. It makes it so players can never be truly comfortable with their play style, and force them to use weapons that they've never cared to use. We don't need rotating metas. We need balance.

Correlation between sports and videos is irrelevant here. What we are talking about is metagaming. In this discussion we are comparing factors about the environment in sports and video games, looking at the how and why the games change, and examining them side by side. We are looking at the correlations and causations within changes in sports and gaming in order to determine if the changes occurred for similar reasons so that we can see if it can be considered meta and metagaming.

  • Sorry bro, like it or not, it happened. Pitchers who threw sinkers were extremely effective because it wasn't what was being done at the time. Due to effectiveness, coaches had to train batters to counter sinkers while also coaching pitchers how to throw sinkers. The game shifted. Once sinkers were countered sufficiently, another type of pitching came up and shifted the game again. It's already happened.

  • You clearly don't understand baseball all that well. The amount of sinker being thrown does not change from season to season. But it does change from batter to batter. As it always has. It's never been a seasonal thing. It's been a knowledge based game depending on how well the pitcher knows who he's throwing to. Gaming, however, is nothing like that. Gaming is about finding a groove that fits specifically to you. And Bungie has been effectively ruining this with their constant meta shifts.

  • You clearly don't understand what he is saying and obviously don't understand the basic definition of meta-gaming. Hell, American Football has a rotating meta when it comes to running backs. Every few years the current wave of recruitment focuses on smaller backs with shifty feet and vision and then changes to larger backs with downhill running styles. Basic. Common. Knowledge.

  • I understand perfectly. And what I'm saying is that we don't need a meta rotation in this game. Especially since Bungie doesn't make an actually erosion type meta, but rather a lone weapon meta. And a majority of the community is sick of it.

  • Sports are completely different from video games. Balance, while not easy to achieve, is much easier than bungie is making it. I wasn't meaning to tell the commenter that he is wrong, but I am saying that a rotating meta is awful. And keeping the pulses on top, as he suggested, would also piss people off. We need balance. Not a go-to "must have" weapon archetype.
