You aren't weird, I have a feeling that you just might come off that way because you only value the opinions of your loved ones. Which is a nice trait, who cares what strangers say?

I think we should be considerate of each other still, but I agree that it's important to place your concerns more heavily in people that you care about

Of course, I agree be considerate and polite but if people are treating you unfairly/differently then don't let them bother you and don't care what they say. I am a firm believer of treat somebody how you want them to treat you.
