Or just expand the infusion system and let us break down weapons and armor to put one perk from the consumed item onto the kept item

You miss the point. On selecting infusion you get EITHER light level or a perk. Not both. You would chose which type of infusion you were doing and which perk you were keeping and which you were overwriting. In all likelihood this would have to be a more expensive type of infusion to keep it in check

That would not be helpful if you had a weapon with desirable perks already though, and would be an issue on deciding which perk to choose to add on Bungie's part(unless they allowed the player to choose). Also, as the majority of weapons we receive are at a lower level than the weapons I use, so I wouldn't be able to transfer the perks that I want. So, I can't agree with you because of the low chance of getting a gun that doesn't only have a higher light than some of the end game gear, but also good perks decided with random chance.
