There is a problem with the prox det on hammers that happens occasionally. Basically what happens is if you toss a hammer it can occasionally detonate before it hits a player. The result is the player lives even though the hammer was aimed correctly.
The fix to that is simple and wouldn't result in the hammer being op again. Reduce the area for prox det, but keep the current blast radius. Hammers would only detonate close enough for a confirmed kill every time. But you'd still have to land nearly direct hits and not just be in the general area. This would fix the problem and not break the subclass.

why is there even a proximity on detonation. it should only be on impact. this isn't horse shoes and handgrenades.

It's always had it. Combined with the massive blast radius hammers used to have is part of what made it op. You just had to get in the general area for kills. The problem now like I said is with the blast radius nerf (which was needed) prox det can now cause hammers to blow up too soon.
