“The thing that—it’s like breaking into jail, in a bunch of ways. If we continue to make all the content super-relevant in the moment to all players, what we’ve done is created a wide swath of stuff for you to do, but we’ve also now potentially psychologically encumbered players so they feel paralyzed.” – Luke Smith, 6/25/15
Something that has been heavily requested is an update of the old raids. It makes sense too; we paid for it, should it not stay relevant? Should we not have a wide swath of things to do?
I think we should. So I wrote a little* document detailing how I might do it.
*See: filthy effing liar.
Basically, VoG, Crota, and Skolas would receive a new selectable difficulty level of 295 Light. The gear from them can drop at max 300 Light, and the activities should be completable, albeit stupid hard, at 290 Light. Average those two values and receive 295. Having KF still have higher light is on purpose: that is the current content and should be most relevant. However, 300 is not a far cry from 320, and that makes it so that the other endgame activities are still worth doing, provide new challenges, drop competitive gear, and allow people to WEAR WHAT THEY WANT, as far as raid armor goes.
The activities themselves have some new mechanics – and a bunch more enemies, per Bungie fashion –added on top of their Hard mode changes, except that revival is allowed. If it wasn't, they couldn't be beaten, I think. Maybe the new Y2 VoG. For example, Skolas has no poison, but gets sniper and bomb Shanks, and Scorch Cannons become available for player use, if they can kill the Captains holding them. Oryx interferes in the fight with Crota and tries to save his son, ultimately failing and making his hate for you so much more intense. Atheon gets his own "non-cleansable" Oracle, and can only be slain by Kabr himself (shield bash or shield Super). Those aren't the only changes/additions, but those are a few examples.
Whether or not you find my mechanics changes palatable, you must agree that the most important thing is having a wider variety of competitive gear to choose from. All equipment from these activities drops between 295 and 300 Light. Raid legendaries are 298-300, Y2 Exotics are 295-300, and Raid specific Y2 Exotics are 300. Necrochasm drops as the Husk of the Pit from Crota at 200 and evolves from there. VoC, Fatebringer, Hezen Vengeance, Hunger of Crota, Black Hammer, Swordbreaker, Mythoclast, all make a return in full glory. The PoE weapons go through a bit of a change. First, Mutiny becomes their special perk. Second, they receive a real secondary perk. As for the armor, Stalker, Arbiter, and Rampart perks are rolled into one that's weaker but works for the whole Prison. Etheric Light also gets a bit of a rework in that it can be dismantled into motes, turned in for rep with Petra, or used to buy a Judgement's Chance II, the gacha from hell that Variks will offer. Class armors rank up different factions based on where they came from: VoG:Vanguard::CE:Eris Morn::PoE:Petra and Variks.
All in all, if you want to mix and match gear and stay above 300 Light, and not have to infuse everything a ton, it is now very possible. If you want to replay the Vault or Crota, not steamroll them, and not feel like you're wasting time, that's now very possible too.
My hope for these versions of these raids is that by Year 3, we can let go and let them sink into irrelevance, while King’s Fall and others receive the same treatment Year 1 stuff received with regards to Year 3 raids. That way we have 3 to 4 solid endgame activities every year, with a respectable refresh rate and loads of loot to keep people coming back for more.
I implore you to read the full document when you can, especially before preparing a debate/critique.
Here's to you, Luke!

Letting Luke Smith talk is one of Bungie's biggest mistakes in Y1.

Edited by Guardian0302: 12/31/2015 9:45:46 AMDidnt read all this, but if you want y2 versions af all y1 endgame content,i fully agree! Maybe you ask for to many things at once. Harder difficulty and better loot drops would do it for me.

Luke Smith is an idiot and has no place making decisions of any sort.

2 RepliesJust goes to show you the people they are targeting are small minded easily intimidated young kids. Problem is that they severely underestimate the community who supported this game initially. Now the remaining community has turned toxic and remains divided over almost every topic regarding this game.
-
I was frankly insulted at his statement... having 3 more things to do will not overload my psyche, jackass. It's likely if Bungie ever fires him, that he won't find a new job easily.
-
5 RepliesI really really dislike this luke smith guy.
-
The only reason they said that is to cover their asses, and make the lack of content seem intentional so they don't look like disorganized fools. But I have a hunch they will bring all the raids up to date, and act like they're doing us all a favor. Even though it's completely what they should have done to begin with.

Circulate his quote if you can. Hopeful as I am, people NEED to know what they think of us when posting here.

I don't know what kind of perspective Luke Smith is looking from, but it doesn't really seem to be from a player's point of view. Making previous content virtually obsolete in a game that people paid for and HAD TO PAY FOR in order to play TTK game is a terrible decision and doing so to make us play with the new gear is also a baffling decision. If it's new and people bought it, of course we'll want to try it out. There's no need to force us to do so. Regardless of my grievances and how I feel about Luke Smith's developer performance, I wholeheartedly agree bringing forth the old Raids back with new tweaks and challenges.

3 RepliesHow someone like stupid-ass Luke can work for a big company? He is too idiot.

and where would Luke get and then put all this code???...his A$$???...really?? Destiny can barely handle TTK, thats why it's been reskin rehash reverse and flat out delete...(if your a y1 player remember hunting the sword of corta those guys spawned everywhere until wolves dropped, then you could only find him on one mission, and over and over and 3 times just for one bounty, thats just a sample.) with the DEV they have now i believe your hoping for way to much, but here's to hope and change....
-
Very good... Combined with the vault space to keep it all.

1 Replyyes we need all the year 1 content in year 2 along with all the weapons atleast the exotics

6 RepliesEdited by Octopus: 12/27/2015 9:15:33 PMIsn't it obvious that the real reason for not giving us enough to do is BO3? In marketing companies speak about a cannibalism effect, when one product is 'eating' the other, something Activision is totally aware of and as they have all the data needed, all the time(!), they know very well how to handle this case and how to still keep their players in line ,) Best is, as this game never was a full game from start, everything cutted out and now sold in pieces, few of this pieces will serve very well for destiny 2 now in the future lol^^ the snowy area, the area on cosmodrome with all the pines never seen so far in destiny 1? well, prepare to pay tripple and quadruple to get them later at destiny 2^^ if there's ever anything still to come in future for D1, bet on it that it will be very very tiny again...but don't mind, with a few items of y1 you already had, grinded like hell, re-implemented as new to fluff the tiny piece again, maybe new way to infuse stuff again? you'll nevertheless be more than willing again to throw more money on the screen^^ not only luke knows this, every person with half brain already understood that^^ but hey, we guardians right? too bad that it's the evil darkness empire of bungiegreedvision we are supporting^^ hope? i guess a little of it mixed with a big bit addiction and the darkness with all the data are enough to keep us in line^^ but hey, in destiny 2 everything will be better right? hahaha...so be ready ,)
https://media.giphy.com/media/PMPwpWrGFLu80/giphy.gif
edit: btw, pls forgive me my bad english, actually the weakest of my 3 languages^^ but i guess somehow understandable...

1 ReplyI just really want Shroud of Flies, Fang, and Hunger of Crota to be year 2

6 RepliesI disagree with bringing the old raids up to date. I think that's the wrong approach. What needs to be brought up to date are the gear within those raids. Right now new players rush from lvl 1 to lvl 40 because there is no point to grind VoG for Fatebringer because it's going to be useless in a few hours of playing after acquiring it. That is why these raids are dead. Now if the gear was upgradeable, weapons and amour, newer players would try the raid because instead only using FB for 5 to 10 levels, you can now use it at the games current state. I would gladly go and run VoG for VoC or Crota for The Fang if I could use the today. Raids need to be an upgradeable path for those who complete it that put the raid completers slightly above the average casual gamer. VoG should be lvl 20-25, Crota should be 25-30, and PoE should be 30-35. Now if you choose to skip these activities, fine, but the ones that compete them should have something that the others don't. Once Bungie understands this the game will improve vastly because there will be so many more weapons and load outs to choose from. Also the elemental primaries should have their elements removed beside The Vex and Nechrocasm.

1 ReplyWhat you propose doesn't really make any of those raids solid endgame activities. Where they to do what you propose here, I would do none of them because my Light level has long since gone over 300 on all 3 of my characters. Getting to 300 isn't the difficult part. It would in fact make things worse, assuming any of the weapons were awesome because then I would have an even greater amount of gear to eventually raise to 310+ and no additional incoming gear at that level.
-
1 ReplyI assure you that the problem isn't that they have no idea how to do this, so the large part of your post was unfortunately a waste of time.

1 ReplyOP as fun as the variants sound you know how this would go: more yellow bars, more adds, more boss health, and higher dmg output from bosses relative to players.
