Think about the booster pack like a car valet. Not everyone is going to valet their car, in fact most will park it on their own and walk, but some will find the value in the valet service. Clearly the booster pack isn't marketed at you as you perceive no value, but surely there are some people who do see the value. To those people it's all about convenience, not cost.

 • Sadly lazy gamers are going to be the death of the industry at some point.

 • Yeah, but would you pay $40 to valet your car when there is an open spot right across the street? The cost vs benefit is way too different. Again, as you say , some will find benefit. To each their own.

 • I personally wouldn't valet my car, but surely someone that does valet their car would have more confidence in the valet than the spot across the street. Specifically if they are not sure if their car will be towed or damaged. The cost vs benefit is not very different at all, cost vs benefit is just cost vs benefit, its an abstract concept that comes down to perceived value which is always subjective.

 • I was using your example of a valet more to the point of distance not so much security. As far as your point of cost vs benefit not being different you are wrong. If I park somewhere but I have to walk 2.2 miles it might be worth it to pay the valet fee and only have to walk 15 feet. Or if I can park across the street is it still worth paying the valet fee to save myself 10 extra feet of walking? That is the point. Getting to level 25 is like walking 10 extra feet. It takes very little effort to do so. But when the cost of getting that benefit is over half the cost of the game itself the cost vs benefit is skewed considerably. Again, not saying that someone somewhere will not perceive a value in that. I was merely pointing out that the cost to benefit ratio is not good at all. In other words, it's a bad investment. Will people still invest? Yes. Will the benefit from it? Some will, most won't.

 • Sure, if you water down my argument to suit your needs. Cost vs benefit is subjective, remember? My point about cost vs benefit analysis wasn't that different things wont have a different cost vs benefit, but that once you have converted them to a cost vs benefit analysis they are treated the same way. If the benefit outweighs the cost then it is good, if not it is bad. You keep assuming that your cost benefit ratio is everyone's ratio, it's not, no matter how overpriced you think the product is. Ever hear of the phrase time is money? Perhaps a very busy person would like to jump right into playing their game instead spending a bunch of time grinding their way up to a sufficient level, it may be trivial to get there properly, but they don't want to waste their time doing so. But for arguments sake let's keep this specific to Destiny, as you may know you cannot enter the crucible until level 5. Assume you're a hardcore PvP player with little free time and sufficient exposable income, do you take the time to level up in a game mode you despise, or do you pony up some cash and jump straight into the action?
Yes, I agree it's not really worth it, but again I'm not everybody and neither are you.
I guess what I really want to say is...
Who cares?
Let them spend their money on it. I think $5 is way to much for an emote, yet A LOT of people purchased the Hammer Time emote, and now Bungie has more money to do more things for EVERYONE. You know, like the "Festival of the Lost" event?
