Ultimate solution to PVP

Going to try to make this as short as possible- The weapons in this game are as balanced as they've ever been. A player can use almost any weapon in the game and do well/poor based off of their personal performance. Although there will always be weapons that are stronger than others. At the moment TLW is shining, and that's fine.... for now. Things will change. But the one thing that will not change is how people play. Your choice of primary hardly matters, because in this game; at the moment. There are no gunfights. Why? because there is no reason to. The reason being, is because of sniping. You've heard it many times, "snipers are OP", "Aim Assist is too high", "nerf 1000 yard". I know people can do some crazy things with snipers and that's good for them. But the last thing that I want to happen is what happened to shotguns. Nerfing a symptom, instead of the problem. If you look at the rebalance updates, majority of the changes have been nerfs. damage reduction, impact, range. This ends up slowing the game down, which again- is fine. But when the game gets too slow, it gets passive. turning into a snipefest. Staring down a lane indefinitely until they are threatened. Leading to running away and holding onto shutdown supers. The worst thing about it is, this game is actually fairly balanced, so what could be done about this? Nerf snipers so that people can't reliably hit their shots? (indirectly watering down skilled players). In my opinion, the thing that needs to be addressed is the "radar". I put that in quotes because it's less of a radar and more of a motion tracker. It doesn't tell you where people directly are, more so the general direction aided by the shape of the map. (behind doors, hallways, walls). --- ---- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- The problem with this is that a person will hardscope in that general direction indefinitely. For as long as they are alive and don't feel the need to move. This passive playstyle does not work as well in objective gametypes such as salvage, rumble and control. I feel that either a significant reduction in radar range or a radar revamp is required to make the competitive gameplay flow again. This is not a rant, It's just a concern that I have because I want to see people enjoy pvp again. I don't think this change will negatively affect anyone because not only is it global, but it allows people to use what they want to; instead of what they feel they have to. TL;DR: reduce radar range or replace the system entirely. & although Inferno can be fun it is not the answer for standard pvp What are your thoughts on this?

  • What's the point, bungie breaks everything they touch. Instead of fixing the main problem they go ahead and create 4 or 5 problems. Take the last patch for example - - Matchmaking has been changed to favor skill and no longer connection (see all of the Reddit posts about game lobbies and where the players are from there's tons of posts about this) - TLW is the only primary used in 3v3 gametypes atm rarely do you see anything else - Fusion rifles were nerfed into the ground once again. - Connection to Destiny in general is absolutely horrible. (In both pvp and pve, I had a team where we kept dcing mid raid.) They need to start addressing what is actually wrong within the game, before they address what they'd like to change. They didn't need to touch every little thing, but they did anyway.

      • Or maybe have Snipers Spawn with & earn less Special Ammo to reward Precision shooting and not spray and pray tactics? Also, maybe prevent players from picking up Special at the end of a Trials round because it carries momentum forward from the previous round?

      • Just funished a clash match on the crossroads map, half the other team were literally camping and sniping from the other side of the map. Where you have the 2 areas that the vex gates teleport you over they were camping on the smaller side. I just think sniping is getting a bit out of hand in pvp now. It's completely unbalanced in terms of it becoming more of a long range combat than close quarters

      • I didn't bother to read that wall of text because all balancing to PvP is completely irrelevant, there is so much lag in this game that nothing works as it should. Ever since they released the patch on tuesday it has gotten even worse than before, bullet sponges in every lobby etc.

      • Shotguns and Mida has been the only issue for me. Conspiracy theory still makes it so every player uses that or Party Crasher and there is no variety for shotguns. As far as mida, it wins close range encounters way too easily.

        • I'm not sure if I particularly like the idea of a smaller radar, but I admit; it would solve the problem. Maybe it's because I've been playing H5G and the radar on that game is claustrophobically small but I'd prefer to see as little change as possible. TLW's recent success is more to do with the way maps are designed and how TLW's niche is now larger due to the absence of Shotguns (a moment of silence, please). Anyway, good suggestion.

You pretty much read my thread and stole my idea bruh -.-. ..i mean you could have thought of it on your own but I've already raised the issue that radar has a lot to do with the success of snipers in this game. Thread i made a couple days ago. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/178715538/0/0

            • The marriage between MMORPG (if you can even classify this as an MMO) and FPS has been very well done, to Bungie's credit. Working in a gunplay system to raid mechanics and social play had to have been tough to figure out, as it didn't really exist in anything other than Borderlands. The biggest problem that it's created, though, is that in a traditional FPS (lets look at Halo), everyone starts off with the same stuff. You get a stick, I get a stick, and whoever's better with the stick wins. Loot systems inherent to the RPG genre, though, make for many sticks. Some players have sticks that other players can't get, and striking a balance here is almost impossible. That's why Crucible has been so fluid for the last 1.3 years. Probably, the best way to keep everyone happy (which is NOT to say the best way to keep things 'fair') would be to further diversify the playlists. I've seen a lot of folks asking for 'hardcore' playlists where everything is absolutely fair, but even then some would be offended by the seemingly lopsided advantage of some players. I suggest that Bungie refine its matchmaking system, such that you're more consistently matching with people who are similar to you in skill. Now, I have no proposition for how they do this, but since they have degrees in this shit (supposedly), I suggest they figure it out :)

                • I know in the last patch that a few things were not being implemented correctly, but because FR users are in the minority we tend to be buried underneath all other priorities. Fusion rifle users may be in the minority group but we ARE the passionate players who stuck by our guns through nerf after nerf. We are asking that you kindly address the FRs after the last patch where the original intent was to nerf hip fire but Buff ADS and crouching. Fusions in its current state are being penalized while both ADS and hip firing. This patch was suppose to buff them not nerf them. Please take the time to watch a video comparing the Plan C before and after the nerf. You can tell that their stability has been drastically reduced: Plan C stability test (During update 2.0): http://youtu.be/qaA-nd0Xd7Y Plan C stability test (During update 2.1): http://youtu.be/iUxKLBRrKk4 Edit: All fusion rifle lovers should bump these threads so that this issue can be heard, we have to stick together if we want change to happen! I love Destiny, it is my first FPS game and Fusion rifles are my favorite things in the world!

                • Inferno is a much more enjoyable game mode. Much less special ammo and no radar means you can flank. It actually promotes movement around the map due to those two things.

                    • Interesting idea. Personally I think something needs to be done about special ammo again though. I still don't think it's right that you can go literally a whole game and use nothing but your special weapon. It's supposed to be special, not your primary. The fact that you can have constant access to a sniper or a shotgun changes the dynamic so much. Look at fusion rifles. People complained about them so much, then they got nerfed into the ground. Now they are useless and still aren't a viable choice for PvP at all. That shouldn't happen, and if we continue on this trend, that's what will happen with shotguns and snipers. Shotguns, snipers, and fusion rifles need to be powerful. With a few exceptions, they should be one hit kill weapons. But what we don't need is for these weapons to be usable for an entire match. They need to reduce the amount of special ammo.

                      • As a sniper I'm saying this. Drop the special ammo drops further. Reduce the box amounts and place them in more confrontational spots. Make the game become a fight for the special rather than grazing for it.
