That first definition is unnecessarily wordy. Just in that one tiny block of text I already felt annoyance, frustration and confusion.
But, anyway, I skimmed through it. If people say a demagogue [spoiler]aka Trump[/spoiler] is "telling it how it is" they really just mean that he said what they wanted to hear. Everyone likes it when people say that they are the victim and that anything different from what they think is wrong, hmm?
"Oh, a Muslim committed a crime? Let me be so self-absorbed to assume that an event I heard about dictates how all Muslims act! Forget the millions of others who do no wrong! Oh, Mr. Trump is agreeing with me? Preach the truth! Tell it like it is! Here's my vote, Mr. Trump! From one shitty person to another!"
