You'd be surprised at how a mic can distort your own voice.
Most likely these people were kicking you because they immediately assumed you were a 12 year-old squeaker. If you had been up-front and said that you were a girl, they probably would've reacted in a completely different way. Most people I know would jump at the opportunity to play with a girl, and would try to act all cool and knowledgeable about the game to try and impress you.
My advice would be to say in LFG that you're a girl, let people know beforehand.

This. It might make me a d!ck, but I can't stand squeakers (the 12 year old kind). Every time I play with one, they try to act all cool and how they are the best, when in reality they are dragging everybody else down. And, their voice breaking my eardrums doesn't help. I usually end up kicking them. Other squeakers (girls, older guys who don't have a deep voice for 1 reason or another), I'm willing to give a chance, cuz at least their attitude and skill level is different. In fact, one of the greatest friends I have ever known, as well as a beast in trials whom I go to lighthouse each week with, is a squeaker, but older. Point being, if a girl with a squeaky voice due to mic enters a fireteam or party of mine or some one like me, they gotta explain quick before the kick. #TitanMasterRace
