What do you mean? Everyone got a mask and was able to get the. Treats free. You don't need any silver. I got multiple bags and xp bonus things that worked fine without it. No where did using silver boost? What to buy more bags? For glimmer? We get that anyway.

  • This post is not about masks. Why does everybody want this to be about masks? Because you could only get the blue skull by buying bags and having some good RNG luck? I am well aware that we had the choice -grind for bags or buy them. That is the problem - if the Eververse later sells a great weapon that I can buy for a lot of Silver OR you could do the exotic sword farming part until you get 1000 of those legendary resources, are you going to be okay with that "free" alternative? That is pay-to-win, Freemium game style. Bungie draws a bright line saying, "nothing sold at the Eververse will affect gameplay." They then immediately smudge the line by selling bags with boosts. (Crappy boosts I personally didn't want because they clutter the inventory and I already had enough glimmer and glimmer boosts, but they were boosts you got for spending real money.) Skipping the mask grind is one thing, but there are consumables here that lessen the grind for essential in-game resources: glimmer and XP. You buy the cosmetic masks, and they throw in these candy consumables "for free." It seems like creep to me. "It won't affect gameplay," they proclaim. But they were already planning to sell these. "The effect on gameplay of these boosts is so minimal, it is as good as non-existent, so we kept our promise! Sure, one hypothetical Kinderguardian could spend thousands of Silver to get these 'free' boosts, and generate glimmer and XP slightly faster than another Kinderguardian, but that possibility is impractical and unlikely to happen even once across our millions of players. What is the big deal?" But we have crept from, "gameplay will not be affected, period," to "gameplay could possibly be affected, but that possibility is vanishingly small." And that was always the plan. That is the direction Eververse was going since it was released, because it hasn't even been a month. It certainly isn't inevitable that more and more significant boosts will be for sale as this goes forward, but they said that wasn't the direction that Destiny would go and yet that have taken the first step in that direction right away. Seems significant to me. --------------- If I may, let me give you (an even more?) a long-winded example of how the bags on sale could have affect gameplay. Again, this is an extreme case hypothetical, but my point is: we've gone from it won't affect gameplay to it could affect gameplay but it is ridiculously unlikely that such a scenario will actually play out. Roll the clock back until the Tuesday the Festival started... You and me. We've both got level 40 guardians. We're both at or close to our 200 legendary marks. We both like experimenting with different weapons, and we really wanted that New Monarchy ship, so we're both out of weapons parts and we've donated all our motes to New Monarchy for rep in hopes of that elusive ship. We've traded in our ether seeds to Variks and our wax idols to Eris for crap along the way through TDB and HoW. We go to the Gunsmith and spend all our glimmer on Heavy and Special Synths because we're planning to raid this weekend. And then, we're the last two Guardians in the Tower to figure out that the vendor version of Hung Jury from Dead Orbit is absolutely awesome. We switch our allegiance and spend our Marks on brand-new, 280 Hung Juries. Crap. Now we need glimmer, motes, XP, weapons parts, and sacrificial higher-light weapons to get these bad boys ready for our raid this weekend. Out of spare motes, we're going to have to put the XP into these new guns the old-fashioned way: Kills and bounties. You're loaded. You've got five grand you were just going to burn in the fireplace for fun, but instead you use it to buy Silver and spend every last one on treat bags from Tess. You've got to throw out a lot of masks, but you get a horde of Void Fizzes and Salty Engrams. Me? I'm eating Ramen because August and September are always slow months for my small business, and I can't afford any silver until that big October payment comes in at the start of November. No Festival treats for me. We both put on our Hive-kills-give-glimmer ghosts, equip our new scouts, and head to the Moon to farm. But you keep popping Void Fizzes and Salty Engrams, so you're generating glimmer faster than me. Your Hung Jury bubbles are unlocking faster than mine. When we go back to the tower, you can buy more Uncommon weapons from the vendors and dismantle them for weapons parts, so you're getting further and further ahead of me at the most significant limiting factor to how fast we can upgrade these things (Fie on the weapons parts nerf!). We're both getting motes (those drop like candy, for now), but by speeding up the XP and being able to buy weapons parts with your extra glimmer, you're able to unlock the Hung Jury and infuse some of your vault's sacrificial contents into it, giving you a high-light Hung Jury faster than I can do the same. You have paid to shorten the grind for a light-item. Like I said, silly and unlikely scenario. But possible. We've gone from, "Never going to happen," to, "Okay, we've made it possible, but incredibly unlikely." Seems like "never going to happen" wasn't the plan even before they said those words.

  • I wasn't making it about masks... Just the treats..... And I realized after thinking about it before you replied. I remember the boosts you can get. And I understand. Violating the line means they're going to again. And and again...

  • Yep. They dipped their toe over the line and we still play, so they will do it again. A line they just drew themselves! All I can say is that at least one guardian won't stick around if they go back across it, and I have attempted to let them know and let them know why. Until then, let's get out there and shoot some alien faces! Happy hunting.
