It is my belief that having light applied to class items seriously reduces the customization of our guardians.
As I look through my vaulted armor, I see alot of awesome designs for these items completely wasted. Some blues, some legendaries, some raid , some faction, all wasted. The VoG hunter cloak is one prime example.
As things stand now I feel restricted to just a couple of choices with each character. There is really no need whatsoever to have your level tied to these items, ghosts either for that matter.
My thought is to remove light from these items all together. The various perks they have are fine but the light needs to go.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

I completely agree. I disliked it when they first mentioned it and now 2 months later, I can definitely say I hate it. I've been stuck with these year 2 cloaks that DO NOT COLOUR with shaders. Big fat UGH.

Agreed 100%. So much for picking a item I like the look of and more customization. All I used were raid high light items. I say used because the crappy RNG and light leveling has finally made me quit. I'd like to add that ghost light levels suck too. And frankly gun light levels kinda kill my buzz on getting and trying new guns. I see a 280 gun and remember saying "ehhhh do I really wanna try this, like it, and then have to find 5 higher types to raise it to 300+???.....NOPE...dismantled". And that's why all my clan mates quit Destiny. And I did too. But these forums are entertaining.

I deleted them all because there is no use for them. I believe if they do make a use for them we will have to do the Vog or whatever again and get a year 2 version of it

#transmogrification

You could say the same for all armour. We need vanity armour slots.
-
I still break out Gheleon's Mantle and Jolder's Sash for non-leveled Crucible... I'll give up a little stat bump for nostalgia ;)
-
Does anyone else miss the Kellhunters cloak ):
-
Yea I say keep the perks and remove light level. As some cloaks are going to waste in year 1 which I still have. Bump!

My thoughts are that Bungie can't win-for-trying with us. Bungie did this because WE ASKED THEM TO DO IT. We complained about "purely cosmetic" items that had no value and didn't make our Guardians stronger. Well Bungie listened to us....and made the class items a formal part of our armor...and gave them stats/perks. ...and now we are complaining about having the very thing that we---as a community----asked for. The Speaker sells many of the non-raid associated class items. If there's one you really want very badly....BUY IT....then INFUSE IT UP.
-
The addition of light rating is only to extend the grind to max light, period.
-
A proper transmog system. Doesn't make sense, bungie devs put a lot if hard work into the various armor and weapon skins wouldn't they be happy to see so many unique guardians?
-
Bump.

Pretend like year one never happened. Bungie already has.

Edited by J Stevensontown: 11/16/2015 1:05:54 PMAgreed, exactly. I want to wear my vog class items, but.. Iron banner class item for Titan = snot rag, c** rag
-
I partially agree. Giving vanity items useful stats kind of makes them non-vanity items by default. However through infusion, there are some cloaks I liked to keep. The Iron Banner cloak especially, out of the new ones. I love the Wolf head thing. The green on the cape isn't perfect however.

The VoG Hunter cloak combined with Achilles is one of the most badass looks ever in this game.

Edited by CarnivalLaw: 11/16/2015 3:38:22 AMBump. Customization, and achieving a unique look and feel to my character, has always been a major frustration with this game. Edited for a typo.

Bump. Not only can I not wear my old raid/vanguard gear but I'm also having to re-purchase all my old cloaks, etc. from the speaker and then level them up. Even when strike specific class items drop they're at a low light level. Like weapons and armour it's just designed to increase the grind but, as its only a matter of time before they release a new expansion and bump up our light levels overnight making all our gear worthless (again), I'll just wear/use whatever has the highest light and to hell with the grind.

I'm with you on the customization limitations. I've got the Mantle of Gellion Y1 IB cloak. Really wish I could wear it without penalty.
-
Bungie needs to allow us to either upgrade the Defense(Light) on them or make it to where they do not interfere with Light level. I felt like I got kicked in the face with a boot when I found out I can no longer use my VoG cloak because it's Y1. Bump.
-
This honestly goes for most of the equipment we have gotten in ttk. Not just the marks, cloaks and whatever. We're reduced to the few otters that come in high enough to upgrade a few times and use. There's glorious amounts of weapons abd gear. Unusable though. Right from the get go.

I wouldn't say remove light, but being able to have any class item upgraded to the current light levels would be great.
