You should make the shading more solid, and definitely go back in and add a lot of detail, lighting, and shadows.

That's not true. It looks scratchy, amateurish, and unfinished. If you want it to look better, it won't have the scratchy lines through it. If you wanted to use cross-hatching/hatching, the lines should be close together for darker parts, and farther apart in lighter parts. I have no idea what you're trying to go for.
