Refer-a-friend??

The forum community seems pretty outraged by the whole "refer a friend" concept. After the first read, it definitely comes off as a, "hey! Go tell your friends to buy and play destiny, well reward you for it!!" But Bungie, why would I do your job when you're still losing my interest?! First off, If that was your train of thought, you're an asshole. Secondly, this system definitely seems to be more of a "hey this guy helped my buddies and I out, we should report him for being kind, patient, and knowledgable." Now, I am curious as to what these rewards could possibly be, as we all should be. And I'm all for the idea of promoting a healthier and more forgiving community. So I wish that whole process the best. I'm here to tell you why a Refer a Friend system is not what we need. As a whole, the Destiny FORUM community is a mess. I honestly would rather see the Destiny forums burn down, causing us to all relocate to Reddit where children can't make a complaint post with swift ninja Justice. That being said, there are still great points about this game floating around here (as misguided as they may be). Refer a friend could be a great addition to the ever-expanding Destiny universe, but as developers I believe that you need to prioritize what you're shipping into the community. This is what the common CoD player read from your weekly update. Here at Bungie, we're reading your input! We know what you want to see, we know what you need to be successful. But we think you need an attitude adjustment before all that happens. Bungie you're trying to slap your communities hand for their behavior, sure this is somewhat warranted, but you're not their parents. If you want to see a more positive side of the community, just reassure the community that you're doing your best to make the game that we all had hoped to play. Stop keeping us in the dark. Stop pretending that everything is okay. Stop teasing us with the hopes of what Destiny could become. I'm no programmer, and have only meddled with coding to edit my MySpace profile layout (once upon a time), I have no idea the struggles that accompany trying to code a live video game that is so closely being viewed... But there's no way that the Destiny team had to pull content away from the gamers. What good does removing all year one strikes from the playlists do, as well as the year one missions from the daily heroic? This could also be asked about all year one weapons and armor. Bungie you're in unknown territory here, and you need to tread carefully as far to how the community is going to take your words and respond to them. I've always, since 2013 hype, looked at Destiny as the bridge between the PC MMO and the console FPS. The two largest gaming genre franchises becoming one, holy shit that sounds cool. Bungie, take a step back and look at what you're about to drop as a whole. Before an update is shipped there are questions that need to be asked: Will this update improve player experience? Will this update limit any players from prior content? Will this update progress the game in a positive manner? I wish Bungie the best of luck with Destiny, I really would like to see it reach the heights that WoW has (at least in my eyes). I'll be playing, I'll be watching, and I'll be interacting within the forums. Good day.
Not all of us have been lost
Edit 1: added tags

  • Refer a friend is NOTHING but a panic button. Destiny is diving in it's players and everyone who isn't a blind bungie dick riding fanboys knows it.

Why is Reddit held up as some paragon of purity and intelligence? Genuine question as I am not a member of Reddit and seldom go to it. However, it irritates me how Reddit seems to be the Apple product of forums where everyone enjoys the smell of their own farts until San Francisco blows up. The MAIN thing that irritates me is I feel like, when you sift through the moron posts on here, there actually are legit complaints. Whereas I feel on Reddit the so called "learned" act like Destiny is fine as is. Again, I don't prowl Reddit much so I could be ignorant to how things actually are. But in general, what is it about Reddit that is so holy?

      • Dear Bungie, Git gud and fix your game. This "refer-a-friend" scheme won't work. Sincerely, A player since beta

      • At least keep the forums. It's a bit of a laugh.
