After this update is deployed, some of the more tech savvy among you will be able to dig up some details for a new initiative we have planned to arrive just in time for the holiday season. We’re planning something new to recognize and reward the Sherpas among you. We are calling it Refer-a-Friend.
Maybe you have a friend who will be getting Destiny as a gift this season. Perhaps their gift-giver will even be picking it up for them at a holiday sale coming to a store near you. If you intend to show them the way to the mountaintop, we’ll have new rewards aimed at recognizing your service to the Kinderguardian.
- Cozmo
Bungie...what are you doing? This is a very Comcast-esque of you (hence why I put that photo at the top).
Let's analyze this a bit.
Does it scream Desperation or Innovation?
Sorry but I'm going to have to say desperation. We are well aware that their number for how many players actually play has been twisted to sound like it's more than it actually is. There's really no way of knowing, but using logic one is able to understand its low when they twist words around. Knowing this, and seeing the number of our friends actually playing destiny go down, it makes sense that they'd bring this sort of thing forward.
But you know what's weird? I haven't seen this in a video game before. I did I quick search however and saw that League of Legends had something like this, and so did Knights of the old republic. However, this is just weird. *cough*moneygrab*cough*
Cool, Bungie will give you rewards, but this...
"Hey man! You should get destiny."
"Why?"
"I don't know, just get it."
"Ok."
"heeheeheeeeee...."
This part of the update made me laugh because it's just weird. We've got tons of guardians crying for fixes to the systems that are broken, while Bungie not only goes at a snails pace, but is actively working on increasing player numbers. I'm disappointed to say the least. Stop boasting and focusing about the "numbers" of players you have, and start helping this game be better for the people who actively play it. (No, I don't play it anymore, but I want it to be better for all of you!) Bungie I really want this game to be amazing but come on...save this stuff for after fixing the big issues.
Honestly, I hope they give any of you who do this some really good rewards like silver and glimmer and whatever else it is you guys might need. Hell throw an emblem and a shader in there while you're at it, really show your appreciation for your fans that have stuck around Bungie.
Or maybe it's a neat innovative way (for Bungie) to capitalize on your friend's mistake! Oops I mean purchase!
Sorry for my cynicism guys, anyway please weigh in on what you think. Any opinion is welcome (except for insulting). If you agree or disagree say so in the comments below, or post what you think about this.

Edit: THE MOST VALUABLE FRIENDS ARE THE ONES THAT GET YOU DESTINY REWARDS
Edit: STOP PUTTING YOUR REFER A FRIEND ADVERTISEMENTS ON HERE. I will report you every time and it's getting really annoying.

Refer a friend is just sad, I couldn't bring myself to refer someone to a game where 90% of it can be skipped and you can be max level in a few hours, absolute waste of money, and I wouldn't be a very good friend. One other point, veteran players probably played this game with their friends long before this scheme existed, I know I did and now they've stopped playing since HoW and aren't interested in coming back for obvious reasons. If this product was as good as bungie claimed before release there would be no need for a scheme like this, it's that simple.

3 RepliesEdited by Skeletor: 11/13/2015 2:33:32 PMIf they want to keep/get more players, all they have to do is make a better product... Y'know, the Destiny game we've been waiting for over a year to play. Enough of this content designed around grind and RNG, add actual content, fix things people actually want, add the things people actually want... O ya, and screw off with the time locked content and weekly lockouts...

2 RepliesEdited by Oddish43: 11/14/2015 10:55:43 PMMaybe if I hadn't been kicked out of the game about 3 million times, I'd consider referring a friend. But sadly, I have. I drive a Honda Accord. I buy Sony electronics. I like Kenmore appliances. Reason: I like stuff that reliably, dependably works. When that is true of Destiny's servers, maybe I'll consider inviting others to the party.

Edited by ReachAndromeda: 11/15/2015 6:33:57 PMLol refer a friend.. "And why... would we... do that??"

Smacks of desperation.

All my friends are trying to refer me to Fallout. This is kind of a silly idea. Articles everywhere. Most hyped game....ever. 25 million people have tried it already (and prob told their opinion to friends already). If anyone needs to be referred to Destiny by now, then that person probably doesnt own a console.
-
I'm sure I'll refer a friend, the rewards are probably good.

7 RepliesWow ... just wow. Every time I think they can't sink this ship faster - they get out of the boat and start drilling more holes. I guess we know where all of those microtransaction dollars have been going thus far - to the marketing team's cocaine budget, 'cause they're all sure as hell high on something if they think this idea qualifies as "good". In turn, I suggest the alternate marketing plan of "Defer-a-Friend". This holiday season, be a true pal and stop those you know from even thinking about purchasing Destiny. Also encourage anyone who gets it as a gift to trade it in right away ... and then NEVER speak to the person who got it for them instead of a decent game (because that's NOT what friend's do to each other).
-
It's not to refer them to play the game.....it's for people who are just starting to thank the veterans and Sherpa's that teach and help them through Destiny. Some people like the game so they'll get friends to play it with them. So now there will be a way for lower level new players to give recognition to the ones that take time to help, carry, team up.....whatever you want to call it. I wonder if there's a certain number you can give gratitude or we can just send props to our whole friends list lol

5 RepliesEdited by The Dude: 11/13/2015 2:03:37 AMI would buy this game for the enemies of the USA...saturate their population with free copies and 10000 silver...let them melt their brains for 1 year banging their heads against near impossible rng... Then I'd swoop in and take entire cities with a baby rattle and a plastic gun replica. All your base aer belong to us!
-
1 ReplyI would never refer a friend to this game in its current state. The grind is atrocious. Worse than ever before.
-
1 ReplyAll guardians please support the "defer-a-friend" from Destiny campaign.

B-b-but 20 million registered users!

Cut out the 360 expand all planets to have at minimum 4 regions which atleast 1 of these areas has a base that gets built to function as headquarters on that planet no tower unless leaving to orbit give us missions for other companies provide support so they can farm resources, build houses, turrtes who knows buts its better than just strikes and stupid patrols that arent patrols
-
this program is intended for new players who have yet to exhaust themselves of the content. Its a way to recruit and keeps sales up over the holidays in light of the heavy competition for our dollars.
-
3 RepliesI wouldn't recommend this game to my worst enemy, so why would I inflict it on a friend?
-
LOL! That picture is just priceless. XD
-
I look at it like this: What if you know someone who has the same system as you, but doesn't have Destiny, and you'd like to play with said friend? Well here comes Christmas (Or whatever holiday you may celebrate), the time of giving. Perfect opportunity to get if for someone. And all the better if you get something out of it as well. But yeah it is obviously a bit desperate on their part haha
-
1 ReplyThe old saying "with friends like these who needs enemies" couldn't be more true!
-
1 ReplyI did - I actually made a mistake I genuinely regret. He bought legendary edition but the old content is so worthless now. I kind of feel sad.......
