I remember people on this forum swearing up and down that Bungle would never, ever, ever sell anything that would affect gameplay in any way, shape, or form whatsoever, that everything sold for silver was and always would be purely cosmetic, and that anyone who thought differently was a paranoid conspiracy theorist who needed help from a mental health professional.
To anyone who said the microtransactions would always be purely cosmetic: no matter how you rationalize this latest step, you were wrong. And you owe sincere apologies to everyone you insulted.
PS. Told you so.

You can still earn them without paying money. In a Crucible game. 1. Or a mission where a bunch of thrall rush you. But I don't think that the glimmer bonuses aren't exactly a leg up on other players. As they're the same thing as all the other bullshit that can be acquired regularly.

In other words, we went from: "Bungle will never, ever sell anything for silver that affects gameplay; it will always be purely cosmetic." to: "Okay, it's a consumable being sold for silver that affects gameplay, but I'm going to declare it insignificant and pretend everything is still cosmetic." Before the festival, when I specifically mentioned telemetries and such as consumables that could be sold for silver, I was told it would never happen. Now that it has happened, suddenly the Desticles want to change their position. I'm sick of the intellectual dishonesty.

They can still be acquired without using money. That's my main point. And also that's just the nature of the packs. The reason they cost more is because they have the chance to yield more masks.

That's a staple of freemium Pay2Play Pay2Win games: stuff that can be acquired through gameplay or purchased with premium currency (i.e. real world money).
