Yeah like that is going to change anything. Sign that petition all you want, but 343i is already well aware of the community's opinion--it is an opinion they themselves share and have acknowledged, but something they cannot do anything about. Unless you want the game to be completely broken?

Why can't they just tone down the graphics just enough to allow split screen? Hell, even 2 players only splitscreen would be fine. Why would they remove that function if it was in every single game before it? Just doesn't make sense.

Because the issue isn't graphics, it's frame rate. The game needs to render at least twice simultaneously for split screen to work, and because frame rate dips can actually cripple this game (neutering AI responsiveness, input lag, hit registry delays, etc.) split screen had to go. As games get more powerful they need to make sacrifices because the consoles can't keep up with the demand. Halo 5 is already pushing the One to its limit, and already has a system in place to drop resolution if the frame rate dips to avoid intense lag. Adding split screen would break the game or otherwise cripple it any time you tried to run it. No developer can overcome console hardware limitations.

Guess it makes sense but sad to see it be removed.

It is very sad, to be sure. 343 themselves were bitter about the decision, saying it was the hardest sacrifice they ever had to make. They were planning to put it in from the beginning but it just didn't work.
