I have an honest question. How do you Christians feel about there being several books removed or voted out of the bible?

I want to make it clear. I do not want to start an argument. I they love talking about this because it's very fascinating.
-
Thats cool, I find open discussions enjoyable. Im working off and on today so allow time for responses.
-
Me too. Just heading into work now.

Best answer is the Bible was written by God thru men. If the books were meant to be in the Bible, they would be. Besides, only God knows if those books were even written in His Word. Its like faith, I choose to walk in faith not in sight. One thing I find interesting is that many people have attempted to disprove certain events in the bible only to actually prove them. There is even a prevailing theory that at one time we had water in our upper atmosphere which lends credance to the flood. There are other possibilities as well, but I think thats particularly interesting. One thing to remember about carbon dating is that it uses a set of known variables to measure known decay rates. The known variables and known decay rates have already beem questioned and changed, they may be very very wrong.
-
I'm not saying it's true or not true. I don't prescribe to any faith but find them all fascinating in their own ways. It's just interesting that different versions exist for different denominations and that all of them don't include a handful of books because they didn't seem to fit what they were trying to convey.

Like anything else the Bible is open to both interpretation and is affected by translation. Aramaic is basically a dead language. One thing I think many people do wrong and too much is to be legalistic about the language and words. Also, many people only focus on a select few passages. The Bible is intended to be consumed as a whole not in pieces. At the same time, each piece gives us something important.

You sir, I like.

You I appreciate

"I choose in faith not in sight" Some would call that delusional. Plenty of people have been sent to the loony bin for similar. Serious question - Do you not find it strange how nobody documented anything significant at the time Jesus walked the earth and was performing all these miracles? It isn't like there were not heavily active Historians at that time. I would think a man turning water to wine and parting the sea would be noted in history, but nope. It can only be found in the Bible.

There's an issue with lost documents. Who knows what was lost at the burning of the library at Alexandria.
-
Oh man, imagine being able to see that collection?
-
I have a feeling it would break my brain. I often day dream about it though.
-
I also remembered that some historical documents have been found. Take the ark for example. Do some googling for yourself though and find some more.
-
You can not be serious. I remember that ark discovery by those Chinese(?) folk above a mountain. and if I recall the whole concept of flood waters being so high at that time would have mean that societies such as Egypt could not have been around, and yet we know that they were around. Unless there was another discovery I am not privy to?
-
Not Chinese. I encourage you to do some more research. Please do not just read one article. Egypt existed and the flood happened, at different times. Please read more about carbon dating.
-
This. I was about to respond similarly. You beat me to it haha.

I dont appreciate your quip comparing religion to delusion and find it gratuitously argumentative. Im sure much of what Jesus did was documented in other ways and also lost to wars and time. For example, how many uninformed people will look back in 100 years and wonder why so much is lost from todays world? ISIS has destroyed many relics. Also, history is written by those in power. The Bible was written by different men in different areas of the world over many years. The message is consistant and so is the history documented within.
-
It wasn't argumentative. Just illustrating how a similar act can been seen in two vastly different ways. Yes, some things do get lost war, but not everything. Also, History is written by the people who experienced it. The whole " History is written by those in power" is complete fallacy.
-
And, yes, it was argumentative, just own it and move one.
-
Its really not a fallacy. Had Germany won WW2 we would have a completely different history. Sam Houston is a Texas hero. Ir, is he a terrorist? Had Mexico won Houstons story wouldve been told differently. Just two examples, but the real list is much longer. By your argument those people who believed the world was round, when the prevailing theory was a flat earth, were delusional. Same goes for people who argued that Earth was not the center of the galaxy.
-
This is true and as I understand it he was from Nazareth not Bethlehem. All very interesting things.
-
Yes, Jesus of Nazareth. I am looking forward to the new movie about Jesus' childhood. This cannot be a factual account as there is none. Yet, and fictional one should be interesting and thought provoking.
-
That does sound interesting. Is it called Jesus of Nazareth?
-
He was referred to as many names: savior, Jesus, Jesus of Nazareth, and Christ to name a few.
