Religion holds you back from the truth in life and gives you false hope of what you should do and not do.
English
-
God shows us the Light, and guides us through Darkness.
-
I agree with you
-
You just don't want to be held accountable for anything you do that is immoral
-
What is your favorite type of fedora?
-
Uh huh…please tell me what exactly is the truth in life, it's very debatable.
-
You believe in a book for all your answers, pray to a god when you are troubled. You would rather pray for people rather than help them yourself. Religion holds you back from the truth that only you can find once you let go of your imaginary God.
-
This statement is so full of inaccuracies and judgements probably based off of a small group of individuals you know who may claim to be Christian. If you don't know every single Christian than don't generalize please. Sorry if you were ever hurt by a Christian or the church. All of us aren't perfect. But your understanding of what you believe a true born again Christian is, is very off target. If you have questions or want to debate about this than feel free to message me. Even if it comes to agreeing to disagree.
-
How exactly can I help someone half way across the world? I pray for people with sickness to be comforted and cared for, can I take care of millions of people? I pray for wars and terrorism to end, can I do that? You answer these questions for me.
-
Where is your progress though? People have prayed for terror and conflict to end for years and nothing happens. If anything religion is a cause of war
-
You are right. Religion is a cause for war. Catholic, Hindu and Muslim alike. They all have flaws but a lot of us Christians don't claim to be religious. We claim to have a personal faith based belief and I for one try to not exploit my beliefs to better myself such as many historical doctrines have in the past. It would be just the same if I said all black people are ignorant loud mouthed violent and lazy. It's just not right to assume based off of a small group of people you may know of
-
You can do a lot more than nothing, which you're currently doing. Prayer is an excuse to feel good while you sit on your ass. You're even holding it over this guy's head right now. Pitiful, especially when you claim benevolence leads your action.
-
As for wars that is something for the world to figure out with the entire Middle East tied so closely to their beliefs it's hard to break anything they want or have.
-
The Middle East isn't the only place to have wars, I can't stop a nation from going to war, I'm not the president, I'm no king.
-
You can donate money, clothes, food anything to people. Praying won't get them a single thing. Now I'm not bashing your opinion on praying but it won't help anybody.
-
So in guessing you donate money and food and clothes all the time right?
-
You think it won't help anyone, that's the problem with religious debates, it is impossible for the two sides to see eye to eye, as they do not believe in the concept. Donating is one of the many things I do, I can't stop the bad things in this world but I can help to reduce it through charity and my prayers.
-
This person said it perfectly before you. People have prayed for thousands of years and it's gotten us nowhere, it achieves nothing. Food, clothing, shelter, protection, these things help. Closing your eyes and "really hoping things get better" does literally NOTHING. Prayer is futile and this is proven. Change requires action.
-
I would like to see your proof. My proof is extremely tangible that prayer works.
-
Proof: people pray for thousands of years. Result: nothing Proof. I simply don't care how many times you, or anyone you know, have prayed for something to happen and then it happens. This is not proof. This is coincidence. It is childish and closed minded to think in this way and it will do nothing but hold us back as a species.
-
You have no proof that "nothing" has happened.... You are the one living in a closed minded world. To say nothing has happened or to say there is nothing beyond ones self is as small of thinking as you could get. Were you hurt by the church at some point in your life? Maybe you were raised a certain way and God didn't deliver for you on a prayer request you offered to him?
-
Neither. I simply noticed that everyone in the church told me I was going to hell if I didn't repent. The fact that your religion would send me to hell even if I was an absolute angel throughout my lifetime, just because i dont believe. But allow a murderer/rapist/child pornographer entry to heaven just so long as he was "born again". I'm sorry but this I cannot abide. What about people on the other side of the world who have never even heard of your religiong, your god? I'm sorry but your book says that if they don't know your god, THEY BURN. What about the verses where God says to marry the person who -blam!-s you if you bear a child from said rapist? What about the verse where he tells you to stone your children for misbehaving? Remember when God said he hates homosexuals? He mentions this twice throughout the bible, but mentions EIGHT TIMES that you should not eat shrimp. You may wanna have another look at that book again.
-
I'm sorry but no you dont. Just because you prayed for something to happen and then it happened, means nothing more than coincidence. Might want to look up the definition of tangible, because whatever example you're about to give me is not going to be palpable.

Edited by Dragonborn012: 10/21/2015 9:45:10 AMI'm no expert so take this how you will. I believe prayer alongside action is the best route. Prayer alone does nothing. There is a biblical story that highlights this (in short, a priest passes by a dying man praying for God to help him and just walks away). Praying while trying to do good things personally gives me a boost to motivation and purpose. Perhaps God will help me sustain that determination and thus, help me change something. Perhaps not. That's just my view though.
-
I disagree with this. (A story when I was younger about praying and no action) but that doesn't mean not doing what God tells you to do. But since then I've turn my back on him and have worldly desires.
-
Agreed you are one of the few people who I have debated with that have some sense on this topic, cheers and have a good night.
