I would do level 41 strike for about 5 play throughs.
I got loads of blue and legendary engrams.
Trade in then equip if higher level.
I did that up to 290 then tag along in a weekly nightfall 👍.

So if I stay in the strike playlist the drops get better?

They do stack. There is an icon that appears on your item screen but I dont know how many it goes up to. When you trade them in equip the highest light you have including weapon. I did a few strikes with a weapon I didnt like that had higher light and seemed to get better drops.
