Breaking a exotic or legendary heavy is a complete utter ripoff.
Like really ficked up how can they allow this shit for a mediocre gun that wont be usefull in KF?

1.Go to collector 2.Buy exotic for 2.5k glimmer and a shard 3.Scrap exotic 4.Part complete, at cost of 2k glimmer(but we all know you can get that back in minutes.

99% of the Destiny community still has all of their exotic weapons from year one. Very easy to break one of those down when they don't matter anymore. Quit whining.

So...go to the weapon blueprints iPad, buy a year one heavy for 2500 glimmer + exotic shard, dismantle it (getting shard back + weapon parts) and then you're done. Seriously not a big deal. The Chaperone costs 15k glimmer and before that the Invective bounty in Y1 cost 12.5k glimmer (in special synths).
