In short: The Chaperone is a precision weapon seems to follow the same damage falloff rules as a normal shotgun. At equal range (thank you, Legionaries), precision shots with The Chaperone do around 2.7% the damage that my handcannon does. The bullet simply ceases to exist at a range that, as a "precision" weapon, feels completely absurd.
In my opinion, bringing The Chaperone's falloff a little less than or about in line with handcannons rather than shotguns seems appropriate, because as it stands it's a neat gun that I don't really see a good reason to use.
