Human life is always more valuable than cultural respect, especially in a ridiculous case like this. I'm pretty sure if you asked the girl whether she'd rather drown or be touched by men trying to save her life, she'd chose the latter. And I'm sure most feminists and SJWs and whatnot would have a similar stance.
And I'm sure most feminists and SJWs and whatnot would have a similar stance.
Of course they would, but they would never admit to it in public (unless they were really radicalized) because criticizing another culture violates the precepts of political correctness. You cannot criticize this man's actions without criticizing the culture that enabled and defended them. The point of the thread is to highlight this inherent contradiction between feminism and political correctness. Feminists are self-interested. They are not interested in all-inclusiveness, even though that is what they claim.

  • It's not inherent, this is a particular situation. You can have multiple beliefs, and prioritize one over another in the midst of a conflicting situation. There's no real problem.

So respect for other cultures is okay, until it's not? Who draws the line? Exactly how and when do we, as a society, decide "this situation merits cultural sensitivity" versus "this situation is completely unacceptable?" This isn't as trivial a question as you may believe at first. If you really think about it for a moment, you'll see the massive potential for ambiguity. Extrapolating from your line of reasoning, is it okay to postpone feminism under certain conditions too? Who gets to define what conditions those are? "Women should have equal rights with men, except when it comes to divorce settlements, because of reasons, and having to sign up for the draft, because of reasons, and being rescued from a burning building, because of reasons, etc..." Either promote equality or admit your gender bias. Pick one or the other. This is why I can't stand feminism. They say one thing, but they do another, and it's all on the basis of their own self-interest. They don't give a shit about how their movement affects men.

  • Obviously human life comes before cultural respect. I don't think anything more is needed to address the issue in your OP.
