The way I see it every NPC in the Tower knows where the Traveler/Last City/Tower is. Everyone flies up to it in there ship... from orbit... so everyone can see where they are on the planet. I watch NASA TV to see the ISS orbiting, and I can tell where they are by looking at the shapes of land masses. Destiny's dropships orbit higher than the ISS, and that actually makes it easier to see large land masses. So you're thinking it doesn't matter if my character flies over the boot of Italy because the knowledge of our past is gone. Well, many NPCs mention things like Brazil, Chicago, North America, Egypt, and so on... so everyone knows the past civilizations and the locations. I'm thinking my Guardian is in too deep at this point to ask where we are. Like I'm embarrassed to admit I don't know where the Tower is because it's so widely known. Know what I mean? Ever had friends talk about something and you were the only one not in on it? Just smile and nod, right? So my ghost would be like, "Ok, that was a good patrol; guess we should head back to the Tower. You want to fly it in manually?" And my Guardian says,"Nah, you punch in the coordinates and let auto-pilot take it over." Because I don't know where I'm going, but I have to play it cool. So my Guardian starts trying to pry the location out of NPCs in casual conversation. I start with Cayde: "Hey, Cayde... you miss being out there?" "You're damn right I miss it!" "What was your favorite place to explore? Was it near here?" "Ever hear the bounty bot mention the target in Brazil? I blazed that trail solo and tracked enemy movement in that area for months. It was so beautiful. You wouldn't believe the landscapes there. And the wildlife! Don't get me started!" "Wow.. Brazil, huh? Did it take you long to fly there? Or was it a short flight?" "Just as long as any flight, I suppose. Anyway, let me tell you about this waterfall I took my sparrow off of..." "Yeah, I mean, if you were to fly there right now... what kind of food would you pack for the trip there? Light snack? Or a full-course meal?" "As an EXO, I don't usually eat snacks... or anything else. ... ... ... So there I was, lining up the perfect jump off this 100 foot waterfall, and then I hear a Fallen dropships breaking the sound barrier..." I walk away, toward Ikora... "Hey, Ikora! You read any good books lately?" "I don't read books anymore. I write them." "Cool, cool. How about the Hidden, huh? Neat organization you're running. You know what ISN'T hidden? The Traveler, the Tower, and the Last City." "Why are you asking about the Hidden?" "Never mind that. Say, if you were to guess why the a Traveler chose this spot to rest... do you think it was because of the seasons? Or maybe the wildlife? What sets this area apart from other areas in the world?" "Do not mention the Hidden outside of this room, you understand?" "Heeeeey, Zavala! You sure did good work protecting this City!" "Thank you, Warlock. Not many Guardians realize the importance of having a safe place to return to. These days it is all about exploring and reclaiming. Everyone just assumes there will be a warm bed waiting for them when they return." "Yeah, when they return... to The Last City... sure is nice to come back here. You ever hear people call this area by its pre-Collapse name?" "Not really. Back then it was a lot like it is right now. People looking out instead of in." "Yeah, that ... sucks, I think. But if those people were to look IN instead of OUT, what would you want them to see about this area of the world in particular?" "The Light. Everyone should see the Light when they look inside." "Ok, thanks, bud. I need to go turn in some bounties."
