Cause then all the whiny bitches on the forums will complain that Bungie's trying to shorthand us. That's all they ever do. The whiners, anyways.

  • I get that (technically being a whiner myself...) - but to me, they need to be the grown ups and tell the kids "no" sometimes. But they seem to think their excitement is going to be contagious and I'm suddenly going to do what? Buy multiple copies of the game? Send them a check for being such a sincere company? No one who doesn't own / play the game could get any value out of most of those streams. I love the game and I literally fell asleep 3 minutes into one of them. So how does this strategy help them? Every dollar they spend on this stuff gets translated back to the game cost at some point down the road. If this game is going to be active for 10 years, then more players = more revenue = existing players don't need to cover all the expenses. So Bungie should worry about new players who don't need "reveal" videos, live events, etc - they need a couple trailers / teasers. Lower costs, more new revenue, less people complaining about the cost of the expansion. I would also point out that (in all seriousness) Bungie did implement a great, cost-effective, system for dealing with us whiners - just let them complain to each other and don't put up a phone number or email. If they can keep the cost down to $0 in the customer service department, then why not apply that same approach to launching new expansions / add-ons. Since you can't make everyone happy, do what makes financial sense. Sometimes the old way actually is the better way, and in this case the old way of marketing the launch of an expansion allowed you to sell a lot more copies before people started passing judgement on quality and value. More copies = more players = less cost per player. Even if that's not exactly true - the opposite certainly is - if they have less money than needed, costs will go up and development quality will suffer.
