Back in late June, Bungie announced a $20 add on package to any version of the Taken King, that includes the Digital Collector's Edition in game items. https://www.bungie.net/7_Bungie-Weekly-Update--06242015/en/News/News?aid=13090 The reference in today's weekly update, is with regards to those players who purchased the DCE, even though they owned all year one content, prior to that announcement, because many retailers of digital games do not allow refunds (disallowing canceling that order and purchasing the digital download version with the add on). DCE purchases made after the announcement, are not included in the group referenced in the BWU today.

  •
DCE purchases made after the announcement, are not included in the group referenced in the BWU today.
I know the intent is for people that purchased it before, but are you inferring that people that purchased it recently do not get it because of that intent, or did you have a Bungie Employee specifically answer that question after the Weekly Update was posted? I feel like it's a good question.

  • I am stating that Bungie announced the list was specific to those that purchased the DCE prior to the announcement. The other part was in reference to statements made by people in that group, not anything stated by Bungie. Apologies for the confusion.

  •
I am stating that Bungie announced the list was specific to those that purchased the DCE prior to the announcement.
That right there. I am asking if, post-tonight's weekly update, a Bungie Employee clarified that this mystery gift only goes to people that preordered prior to either today or to the announcement of the $20 bonus pack- or if you are just inferring that position that it only goes to one of those groups based on the fact that the purpose is to give it to people that already owned the expansions prior to tonight/that announcement two months ago. Basically, the weekly update tonight did not specify that if you were to purchase the Digital Collector's Edition right now and you already owned the game and both expansions, you would not get the mystery gift. It is clearly intended for that audience that made the purchase when it was first announced, but will Bungie's system actually only give the mystery gift to those particular people, or will it register to those that owned the content and bought it anyways, period? So when you made your post, I wondered if you had a Bungie Employee affirm that position after the weekly update tonight, or if you were just assuming that based on the situation and your understanding of the text . It wouldn't be a ridiculous assumption by any means as it does seem to point to a particular group of early adopters, but it is one I definitely feel like actual clarification would help on from a dev.

  • From tonight's weekly update (emphasis mine for the important part of today's statement): Final Programming Note: Just after E3 we announced a $20 Upgrade that would provide the option for Year One Guardians to pick up the Emotes and Class Items from the Digital Collector’s Edition. That offering will be available in your console marketplace or store at The Taken King’s launch on September 15th. To those of you who had already purchased a Digital Collector’s Edition prior to that announcement, we promised that we’d have some additional information for you:

  • I prefer to buy physical copies of all my games. I preordered the physical collectors edition, am I understanding correctly that even though I purchased the physical collectors edition, there will be additional "stuff" exclusive to only those who purchased the digital version?

Right. That is to whom the promise was made. Because those are the people intended to benefit from this. I am not questioning that those individuals are the target audience for this as they are the ones that got screwed over- not a bit! However, what the update does not exclude is that if people made that same purchase since, and were not in that audience at the time of that statement, that they would not be able to benefit. That statement just says the promise was made to those particular people. The system might just search for people that made the purchase and already own both DLCs and the game, is basically what I'm getting at. But it also may be an actual, tangible list of names Bungie collected too- that's also possible. But it's still one I feel worth clarifying because the group that made the purchase prior to tonight and after that announcement, or those who will have made it prior to TTK's release, is not excluded based on either statement from what I can see.

Thanks for your answer. Also, Is there a reason why CE and DCE are both 80$? I don't understand why I'm getting way less bang for my buck. Well... Just for people like me who already own all of Destiny and are up to date.

  • The digital version lets you play the base game, TDB and HoW right away. You'd have to wait til Sept to play the physical version.
