Yes there is. Take, for example, Helm of Saint-14. If you do not use that helm, there is no way to replicate its effects. It gives you a little area of safety, something no other Defender Exotic can provide. Leaving Exotics behind isn't like upgrading a +10 damage sword to a +20 damage sword in an MMO, it's more along the lines of removing skills in your skill tree and replacing them with others. Imagine, if you will, what if Bungie decided that for The Taken King, they were going to remove the Defender, Gunslinger, and Voidwalker subclasses, and replace them with the new ones. People would NOT be happy. And that's basically what is happening here, just on a smaller scale. Exotics are THE guns/armor. They tell a story, and provide unique ways of playing the game that cannot be replicated. So yes, there is something to bitch about. The fact that this game is reducing the amount of ways in which I can have fun. Oh, and by the way, no one is gonna be running Year 1 stuff once TK drops because that would be stupid. All the endgame stuff is going to be in King's Fall and the new nightfalls, in which Year 1 Exotics won't be able to compete.
