WEAPON/GEAR LEVELING.... Why not "prestige" rank up weapons based on XP?

Throw year 1 Weapons & Gear away for the new?

Here is the thing... I love my Fatebringer. My favorite PvE weapon by far. I was devastated when it was stuck at 300 attack after the first DLC dropped. I discarded all of my Atheon raid gear and countless legendary weapons because the Dark Below rendered them useless. I kept a few for sentimental value. Then when the 2nd DLC came, and all was good. It burned that I had gotten rid of so many good pieces of armor and weapons that are impossible to get back now. But at least Fatebringer was salvaged. But now I am reading from GameInformer that all year 1 gear and weapons will be useless... this blows.... Dark Below all over again. So why won't Bungie just implement a new weapon/gear ranking system that grows with the player? The more you use the weapon or gear, the more XP it accrues, which in turn levels up the weapon until the current DLC's maximum level. Consider it a "prestige" ranking system. I just think that its BS that we have to now throw our favorite items away (because we all know there isn't going to be nearly enough vault space). This will keep people happy. Maybe make the weapon jump up 5-10 attack points each time a player maxes it out with XP. Then have to start over after using an etheric light to keep leveling it up. I also think this should work with exotic gear. I understand you want them to be different and have a distinct look, but why not allow exotic gear to match shaders after it gets to a certain XP level? I hate looking at some exotic gear that just doesn't match everything else my guardian has equipped (purely aesthetic but it IS annoying). Simple fixes I think. Add another circle that needs like 100k XP to rank up for shader usage.
