I'm a Christian and I apologize for any of the rude Christians on this post. Some of them don't understand that evolution can co exist with religion. And some of them can just bull headed at times.

-
Evolution cannot coexist with any bible believers
-
Yes it can, there is the belief of soft creationism, where people take the bible as metaphorical and/or believe that evolution exists but God guides it.
-
They apparently do. The above comment proves you wrong.
-
You cannot have 100% faith in the bible and believe in evolution
-
Explain why not?
-
Bible says God created man evolution says otherwise
-
Wrong. Evolution describes a mechanism by which life, that already exists, adapts and becomes varied. It doesn't rule out God as the initial creator and it doesn't rule out the possibility that God used/guided evolution to bring about exactly what he wanted.
-
God created man and all of the species separately. And it also says the earth is 6k years old which does not give enough time fore evolution to occur
-
It says that God created everything. It doesn't give enough detail to claim specifics, especially given the poetic nature of Genesis 1. And nowhere in the bible does it say or imply that the earth is 6k years old. It doesn't give an age of the earth or universe.
-
You realize that it gives lineage though right? And through this age can be figured out.
-
I do realize that. I also realize that in most cases they are incomplete and that they leave unaccounted for time. Anytime we infer things into the bible that aren't there, we are on dangerous ground.
-
How old do you think the earth is?
-
Pretty old...
-
As in 2 million years 10 thousand years or 5 billion years
pretty old
I'm not surprised you said this it just dodges the question
-
No one is dodging anything, but nice attempt at inciting some sort of angry response from me. However, the age of the universe and earth has changed drastically over the last couple hundred years, I'd venture to say that no one really knows. But, astrophysics seems to place the universe at 13 billion and change and the earth at 4 billion and change and I have no reason to disagree.
-
So those "lost generations" you speak of in the bible are 4 billion years?
-
I never said lost. A lot of times they were omitted. In most of the genealogies only the people relevant to the story were mentioned, but regardless... I don't know how long those periods of time we're. There is also an indefinite amount of time before man was created. Why are you so insistent on trying to bottle neck me into young earth creation? The young earth view didn't even become a prominent view until the mid 1800s. What did Christians and Jews believe for the preceding 3500 years? I think you've been under the impression that science refutes the bible and now that I'm telling you it doesn't, you're uncomfortable. Wherever creation is spoken of in the bible, the main truth to take away from it is that God created everything. How and when he did it is not mentioned in the bible. The bible is not a science book and it doesn't claim to be, it is there to make us wise unto salvation through Jesus Christ. The bible teaches that God has made himself evident in creation and that he has put a burden on the hearts of man to study the creation. I think we should take very seriously what we can find, through science, about the universe. If you are interested in some more detail, I'll refer you to astrophysicist Dr. Hugh Ross, geneticist Dr. Francis Collins, and mathematician Dr. John Lennox. They have some wonderful views on the topic.
-
Need I refer you to Genesis? "God said let there be light blah blah blah" that's how he created man and women from mans rib doesn't sound like evolution to me.
-
Genesis 1 is written poetically. Repeating phrases, also the correlation between day 1 and 4, 2 and 5, 3 and 6 prove this. Also, compare it to the book of numbers or chronicles to see the difference between poetic prose and historical chronology. Also, I don't rule out a few bouts of special creation and neither does evolution. There'd be no way to know if God created two people without evolution.
-
They good ole there is no way to know and it's a poem so we get to choose what we believe
-
What's wrong with not knowing? Isn't that what science is based on? No one will ever know everything, so to count that as a mark against me or religion is ridiculous. And yes, the creation account in Genesis is written poetically, but that doesn't mean we can just believe whatever. Like I said, the bible teaches us about Jesus and creation teaches us about itself. That's the way God designed it and that's why he gave us the urge to study creation. I'm sorry if your preconceived notions of Christianity and the bible aren't panning out...
-
You used not knowing as justifying the belief of God.
creation teaches us about itself
My expectations are panning how how I expected them to
-
No I didn't. I said that as far as Adam and Eve are concerned, they could've been special creations in the midst of evolution, but I don't know. I don't know where you get your information, but you have been viciously mislead.
-
Pretty sure they were made "on the seventh day"
-
He does, so your argument is invalid. You're looking at something that has clearly happened and saying it can't happen. Sorta like what creationists do with evolution.
