You're right but regarding the 'burn up before you touch it' comment. You'd also die within seconds while standing on Venus, you probably wouldn't land on it alive, but we patrol Venus too.
I'm saying heat evidently isn't factored into this game, but as of yet, consistency of the planets are, we've traveled to no gaseous giants as you've pointed out.

If heat isn't factored into this game, then why are there so many sweaty nerds blink shotgunning all over the crucible?
-
I'm afraid even Google doesn't know the answer to this :P

No, it doesn't work like that because Venus was terraformed by the Traveller. Before you say "BUT WE CAN TERRAFORM TEH SUN AS WELL!" think about what you just said... Firstly, you can't just magically bring a surface to a planet or a star. Secondly, if you terraformed the sun, you're probably going to end up -blam!-ing the entire solar system. Heat distribution would be screwed, you get the idea. Sun won't be a playable planet same reason why Jupiter and Saturn aren't.

Edited by Jazeservedyou: 8/2/2015 12:16:24 PMTerraform a planet all you like, it didn't move in distance away from the Sun (Main heat source) and you've literally just said yourself terrformation has no effect on gas, which is the reason heat doesn't escape Venus. I didn't say you could terraform the Sun either, the only way the Sun will be playable is if it's on some kind of space station (Given this game blatantly ignores heat) EDIT: You're aware I meant the Sun wouldn't be playable in my first comment, right?

I did. But just thought to give my opinion. Space station would work fine though. Come up with a metal which doesn't metal or some Cabal bullshit and create something near the sun.
