For other post it below. Also, explain your choice, and be more specific about the reasoning for your choice. I realize these are very broad, and even so still have overlapping aspects. But hey, 7 is the max. Food for thought. Some of these issues have large affects on each other. So maybe if education is a big issue to you, consider whats holding it back. Edit: I'm proud of the flood for not getting into any massive flame wars over this. Overall generally good comments.

    • I don't really know since I'm a Canadian and don't know much about what goes on inside, but maybe Education could help.

    • Foreign policy. It is why people hate americans. Restructuring it would help us make more allies and stuff, I guess.

    • If not education, then it is our addiction to entertainment. We've gotten very comfortable in the lead, but everyone else seems to be working very hard to catch up. Sooner or later we will not be the one calling the shots around the world, mostly because the America that is calling shots are not the Americans who make up our general consensus. The government has grown so large that it's fingers are in everything. There are no states rights anymore. There is no freedom. Here, when things are good, we feel free because things are nice. We have many freedoms, but we are no longer the freedom of the world. If we want to continue as the economic power of the world and maintain our place as the most desirable nation to be a part of then we're gonna have to buckle down. Stop teaching SHIT in schools. We have these millions of kids who will be the upholders of the values of our society and everyone is complacent working a shit job for minimum wage because we have so much excess that anyone can live on 1000 bucks a month. What happened to wanting more? What happened to building yourself up with a real degree of knowledge and a strong will to work hard? No more do people want to push the luxury of living. We just want to work a slave's job eat and play video games. Fine and dandy, but let's be individuals. Let's create our own destiny. Ba dum tss.

        • Education, it started it all. The lack of self discipline and discipline in general lead to no jobs. And no jobs means less work and pay to pay bills. And we just keep handing them money to get off their feet but their not going to.

            • I would have to vote for education. Too much of our current education is both limited and geared entirely wrong. We're taught what to think, not how to think. We're taught that all opinions are equally valid, regardless of the facts supporting (or not supporting) them. Our public education system does a terrible job of teaching students how to live in our system, pertaining to taxes, job acquisition, money/debt management, etc. It's also absurdly expensive.

                • Fix education, fix everything else. An educated populace is by far the best thing a country can achieve.

                • National security. The media sees that good stories in the news, as not interesting. You only really hear about bad things. Corrupt politicians, crooked cops, and corporate "monopolies" (even though they're not supposed to exist.)

Sinking into the sea from the weight of all its morbidly obese people. But, seriously? I couldn't even say. It's like picking a name out of a hat, honestly. We live in a day and age where everything is connected in some way. Which, unfortunately, also creates barriers and ripple effects. Try to change one thing over here? You hit a little speed bump in the way. Successfully change one area? Another area lags behind somewhere. At this point, you have to consider it all like a big, round equation. Honestly, truthfully, I'd say everything. Everything needs to be looked at. Not individually. But collectively as a sum whole, like an equation. People in their respective fields need to collaborate with others who specialize on other fields, to gain a mass consensus and awareness for every aspect of things. And then, that's when you can really start to modify the code, so to speak. Should have put an All of the Above option in there.

                        • A lot of the big problems can be fixed by fixing the economy. But I would add crumbling infrastructure to the list because that can effect a lot of other things as well such as economy and enviroment.

Education and a lack of integrity when it comes to international affairs. Education would help solve many of the civil issues facing the country today- racism, homophobia, sexism, etc. It would also let America, which has somewhat slipped from its place at the forefront of innovation and technology, to once again move towards the future. Finally, education is key if we're actually going to make substantial changes to fossil fuel consumption and carbon emissions. As for foreign policy... I think that America, as a world power, has a responsibility to promote world peace. And in the past, we've done so. In more modern times, however, the US is far from United in its goals. Corporate greed, unsubstantiated fear, and unreasoning patriotic zeal have caused the US to stray from its responsibility, ignoring and in many cases worsening global stability by making decisions based on impulsive gut feeling rather than actual thought.
