Honestly, and this is coming from a day 1/beta player, I think they made a mistake removing damage/defense upgrades. I also think they should not have put upgrade materials in the quarter master. While at the time I hated the grind of having to level up gear and THEN go out and collect gear for upgrades, in retrospect, it made my time in non-strike/raid activities more rewarding because if I saw a helium rods patch, I'd be sure to run and pick it up. Now if I see them in the world, I don't even care to go get them. Why? because I always have the marks to purchase upgrade materials in plentiful quantities. I know some people hated the grind to unlock weapon perks and then gather upgrade materials to upgrade them, but from this gamer's perspective, it was a part of what made the beginning days of Destiny fun. When we couldn't raid, we went out and did bounties to level up gear, and when we ran out of bounties, we went to kill stuff randomly in patrols and gather upgrade materials, and occasionally do events. Sure it was somewhat repetitive and got old sometimes, but so is the strike playlist. I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I do miss those days and I wish they'd bring them back.
