So basically all this time we spent collecting, going on raids with friends over and over and over again to get rare gear, and all the countless hours spent upgrading and searching will pretty much go down the drain of they end up making it so we can't upgrade? If we weren't able to upgrade our old gear we spent countless hours trying to get them and upgrade them were pretty much wasted. So every year we would pretty much be wasting another full year collecting since we can't upgrade and use it effectively the next year after. Sounds pretty horrible. If they aren't offering a way to upgrade, then what will be the point searching and upgrading armor and weapons for another year just to throw them all away. Yeah. I would definitely no longer support Destiny if I knew this is how it will be for the years to come.

  • All I got from this is that you're a hoarder.

  • This is how level based MMO and MMO hybrids work. Why keep grinding and playing if you want to use the same equipment?

  • You wouldn't last longer than a single raid tier in a mmorpg with that logic.

  • With an MMORPG it's better to have a different logic. This isn't exactly one of those kinds centered around doing continuous sidequests and continuing the story and continuing different side quests etc. So of course there's always a different logic when playing those games. This is not one of those.

  • And in mmorpgs once you reach level cap, quests are largely irrelevant, so that doesn't apply here either. In those games, you get raid weapons to beat the raid, then use them for the next raid when you upgrade to something better. Destiny needs to start following those lines and begin having tiers of raids and not make us want to cling to old legendaries like FB and VoC, etc.

  • You'd be using that gear and weapons to grind for the newer stuff? And did you not have fun doing the raids? I know I had fun grinding.

  • Fun was a part of it. And the reason in the first place to grind on those big raids Bungie develops is to hopefully get that special gear that is unlike the rest. And yeah. I'd love to use by Black Hammer years from now and I imagine people will still be doing those raids to get that specialized weapon down the road. Bungie did say they wanted us to be able to use our weapons we collect in the future and make sure they're still usable, so not sure why people are assuming it'll all go away. But yeah. Part of it is to have, never said it wasn't. But let's not kid ourselves at all. A massive massive reason we struggle to learn how to do these raids on hard at start and the biggest reason we gather raid groups even using LFG and to put all those countless hours and days to hopefully get those rare and specialized sought after weapons.

  • So you only play destiny for the loot? What about, you know, actually having fun? All those hours you spent "going on raids with friends" weren't fun? Personally I hope they chuck the whole lot out, even exotics. Bring on the new gear!

  • Having fun with friends is obvious...it's one of the reasons....I never said anything about it being the only reason. There's no denying the biggest, if not the biggest reason doing countless hours doing raids or countless hours doing Strikes to get the Hopscotch Pilgrim is to get the gear and those rare drops. And to say in a couple months all those hours you put grinding for that gear would be useless. This isn't like a normal MMO...not really an MMO. It's strives to be many things, but doesn't fully master and fully adhere to the norm. There is no MMO style story where you're continuously doing various different story lines and continuously progressing through the story like ESO. As Bungie has said, one of the biggest aspects about this game like no other is that it's built around collecting the guns and armor. Doing raids and things like IB, people grind over and over to get that special exclusive weapon or armor. We're not playing an extensively long time to continue on the story. No. One of the biggest things, if not the biggest things unlike any other game, is that the game is centered around collecting these rare weapons and armor. Yeah we have fun trying to collect the gear and upgrade it, but the games biggest draw is getting these gears. And to just say it will now be useless and the hours spent getting them is taking away one of the biggest reasons we put in the countless hours in the first place. Besides. HoW dropped only a short time ago and Bungie offered a way to ascend our old and current gear to the new HoW because they know the game is centered around the gear we collect. And etheric light is hard to get for some. To just say a couple months later that the new etheric light to ascend the gear would be useless anyways because your old gear would be worthless now would raise eyebrows to why they just allowed us to update our older weapons we grinded to get.

  • Well as i remember from my timr playing mmos and such they just nerf stuff out of existence at the end of the year so why do i care lol. What fun is it if people are in year 8 using Fatebringer, none. Its the need for new weapons. I believe exotics will continue but not legendaries

  • Not exactly a normal MMO. Playing MMO's like ESO is basically centered around continuing a story for a long time and getting gear after each level to continue onto the story. Destiny has been basically built around the weapons and armor, and to get those we have to grind and search for countless hours to get them. Not to continue onto the story where the level before our armor set isn't continuously being thrown out without much thought. Even Bungie said one of the biggest reasons people put in the countless hours is because of the weapon collecting and they want us to continue using our favorite weapons. With a game where one of the biggest design features and main addiction is in the weapons we collect, then yeah, it would be horrible to have it all go down the drain.

  • Supporting a game for an entire year then calling it all a waste. I've mDe friends, joined a clan and have generally had a great time playing destiny. Even if all my stats were reset as well as my guns I wouldn't call my year a waste. Either way bring on TTK.
