Why would they rebalance weapons if they're going to make them obsolete?

Individual weapons will not be obsolete. The new level cap would have to be ~40 in order for 365 weapons to be inadequate against majors/bosses. Story missions, nightfall/weekly/daily should only be 2 levels higher than now so weapons will still be more than adequate. That's the point. Weapons will not be upgradeable but that doesn't mean they'll be obsolete. They'll slowly phase them out as new DLC comes out and level caps get higher.

Because in pvp they will remain useable since the damage is not relevant. The only thing that counts is stuff like impact/velocity/range - stuff like that. That's why they balanced them, in ttk they will have better weapons for pve but everything will have the same base damage in pvp
-
Then why nerf it? That's completely illogical.

If you noticed the damages remain the same, they addressed much needed changes to change the current crucible status. It's true that they are hitting things hard in pve but I think once we receive new weapons we will understand why. But as far as pvp goes I think it's going to make it more enjoyable for everyone. I love hand cannons and I think that TLW and Thorn were a bit strong and I'm going to use them after the nerfs still - it's going to mix up the play style with them and if you're good with a weapon you're good with it, just kinda how it works.

I am curious about this. They even made a point to change blackhammer...

They made a point to nerf Blackhammer to uselessness, which is actually more a point towards them leaving year one guns behind.
