Look at nerfs in a different way?

I saw an interesting post on the Destiny reddit a little while ago and thought this was worth sharing with the Bungie staff and community. What do you guys think? I think that the incomprables in destiny are the Exotics and the sub classes. Nerfs and buffs should land outside the normal weapon tweaks. (No double nerfs like Last Word) What do you all think?

It's an excellent explanation. Having played world of War craft for 10 years I'm very aware of the power creep issue and also how badly heavy handed nerf hammers can anger a gaming population. I was impressed when I first played Destiny to see the mmo elements but in a design that attempts to minimize and negate power creep. However, they need to learn a bit more finesse regarding the nerfing part... Games need to be balanced for sure, but most people absolutely hate the rules being turned upside down on a whim and having to readjust to the new way of doing things. People will always gravitate to what is most effective and powerful in a game like destiny. It feels very unfair when a player spends tons of time striving for a certain weapon or perk roll only to have it changed and rendered a joke in a patch. The solution? Get things balanced right the first time, and be very, very careful when you tweak game balance. When you drastically change a gamers experience in a game, you also risk removing everything they may have emotionally invested in the game as well, which makes it easy to just walk away and try something new.
