TL:DR - put LFG in game ;)
Optional Matchmaking (OMM) needs to address four Community needs;
1. Provide a quick and easy way for people who suffer time constraints or have few friends, to form a team to enjoy end game content;
2. Be implemented in a way that ensures ill disciplined players do not negatively impact the performance of a match made team.
3. Provide the ability for people to solo content at their choice; and
4. Provide folks with a way to bring pre-made teams to complete end content.
The following scheme suggests one way to deliver these requirements, build participation and game sales, both of which are essential to longevity of the franchise.
Please note there are other ways to meet these objectives.
This thread provides a place for respondents to share their views and hopefully provide Community Manager Cosmo with some suggestions to take forward.
OMM could be implemented as in game Looking For Group (LFG). Where in game LFG system is integrated with the party formation and messaging functions of xbl and psn.
OMM is available for all content with the exclusion of content that requires premade teams for success vis Hard level Raids and L35 PoE.
A new Add is created in the Tower who provides a bulletin board where folk can either state their availability or set up a team for a particular task and call for volunteers.
Like third party LFG sites, this approach enables team leaders to curate teams prior to formation.
Once teams are formed, but prior to an event, teams members are provided with a kick player option where the kick is based on a majority vote.
This approach provides a second but expanded team curation option.
Prior to commencing the activity as the team starts the process of meet and greet, negotiating who is doing what in the event and any in event call outs, any gamers not participating in the way the team needs runs a kick risk.
Once the team curation is finished the leader punches the Go button and the event is on.
Whilst there are a few technical matters that may need to be solved to implement this approach all can be solved without excessive development time.
What do you think ? What alternatives are better - let's give Cosmo some solid feedback to take forward.

I am currently using; - 100.io for raids - destinylfg for the rest Both work well but would be even better if integrated with Destiny.

1 ReplyEdited by gallp13: 7/16/2015 12:34:41 PMJust then this thread bounced back from oblivion to #1 on the highest rated list. Maybe the "Sols Help" comment worked :) I don't care where this thread rates that's up to the Community. What I care about is that the trending and highest rated lists work properly so the Community's has a genuine voice.

12 RepliesEdited by Lost Sols: 7/16/2015 3:20:22 AMGreat read gallp :) Here are my thoughts.
1. Provide an quick and easy way for people who suffer time constraints or have few friends, to form a team to enjoy end game content
Desperately. A month ago there were never less than a dozen people playing Destiny when I logged in. Now there's rarely more than one.
2. Be implemented in a way that ensures ill disciplined players do not negatively impact the performance of a match made team.
100% While in reality the shit disturbers probably only make up a small % of the player base, not implementing a system to kick them could ruin the entire system for everyone.
3. Provide the ability for people to solo content at their choice
Again agree completely. Sometimes I just want to solo a NF, either for the challenge or just not in the mood to run with people.
4. Provide folks with a way to bring pre-made teams to complete content.
Events should be able to be complete groups, entirely lfg or not full groups filling out the team through lfg.
The following scheme suggests one way to deliver these requirements, build participation and game sales both of which are essential to longevity of the franchise. Please note there are other ways to meet these objectives. This thread provides a place for respondents to share their views and hopefully provide Community Manager Cosmo with some suggestions to take forward.
Knock on wood.
OMM could be implemented as in game Looking For Group (LFG). Where in game LFG system is integrated with the party formation and messaging functions of xbl and psn.
I like the integrated lfg, I don't like tying it to xbl/psn messaging functions. The reason being it's just an extra step and a hassle. Not sure how psn works but it always annoys me when I try to send gg's to the other team after a close PvP match and I have to bring up their gt, go to messaging on the guide, back out, scroll through to add recipients, yadda, yadda. Why isn't there an option when clicking someone's name post-match to message them? I mean we can report them but not communicate? I'd just like to see a dedicated lfg menu in game.
OMM is available for all content with the exclusion of content that requires premade teams for success vis Hard level Raids and L35 PoE.
I think it should just be all content. If people are willing to run it with other random teammates, they should have that right. Also HM raids aren't that difficult.
A new Add is created in the Tower who provides a bulletin board where folk can either state their availability or set up a team for a particular task and call for volunteers.
This I like very much. Obviously it would be game-wide since actual Tower capacity is so low. I like the idea of a scrolling board that you can hold x to interact with and search groups.
Like third party LFG sites this approach enables team leaders to curate teams prior to formation.
Yes and as I've posted in other threads, the best way I can think to do it is to allow players to host lobbies or join them. If a player hosts, they pick the activity- raid, IB, PoE, etc and they determine the number of locked spots (all if they want) and number of open spots for mm. They can also set level requirements and such. The players searching for games have two choices. 1) Go to the LFG board in the Tower and browse available lobbies just like they browse lfg sites. 2) Choose to be matchmade with the first available group that fits your search criteria- event, mode, level, fresh run or any (in progress events okay to join). Then the game would mm you with the first group whose criteria you fit and who fit yours.
Once teams are formed, but prior to an event, teams members are provided with a kick player option where the find kick is based on a majority vote.
This I don't like. Too who looks weak? Let's kick them! before each match if that's where your group is set. The match host just needs to always have the option to kick, but it needs to be restricted immediately before and after bosses/rewards for 2-5 minutes to prevent griefing.
This approach provides a second but expanded team curation option. As the team starts the process of meet and greet, negotiating who is doing what in the event and any in event call outs, any gamers not participating in the way the team needs runs a kick risk.
Again, just too much chance for ill will, antagonism and rancor right off the bat. You should be grouping up and greeting each other, not grouping and seeing who looks weak.
Once the team curation is finished the leader punches the Go button and he event is on.
Aside from the pre-match kickfest, I like it a lot :)
Whilst there are a few technical matters that may need to be solved to implement this approach all can be solved with excessive development time.
This system has been in games for over a decade.
What do you think ? What alternatives are better - lets give Cosmo some solid feedback to take forward. Thank you for reading gallp13
Link to my full post on the system I would run. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/129939506/0/0

I disagree. Optional matchmaking should be for everything in game including raids and Poe
-
Agreed. Not to mention if you're doing something with a pre-made team and someone gets kicked or lags out, someone else can be put right into your game and reap the rewards of someone else's work and that person who got kicked has to start from square one.
