Well starts with getting a cdl, depending on your area the schooling might cost about $4000 - 6000 & take about 2 months to complete. After that most companies won't hire you without experience, so you'll start off with a job that will pay less than what I'm making now. If you're a owner operator ( you own your own semi) then you'll be paid more, but it's about having the experience. I own my dad's company, so I had a reference & was hired in the spot at a place that paid well. It also depends what kind you're find, long haul well pay more than local things, bit you're basically living out of your truck. Also flatbeds & oversized loads will pay way for than what I'm making now. You just do a bit more work
